Story
DOB: 3/20/2022 Approximate Weight: 20lbs Meet Slinky! Slinky is a lovable, low-riding goofball with a big personality and a lot of feelings. He’s playful, affectionate on his terms, and full of quirky charm — but he’s also a work in progress who needs the right match. The good stuff: - Dog & cat friendly: Gets along with small dogs and cats (though may play-chase). - Velcro vibes: Loves snuggling close, especially at bedtime. - Playful & silly: Big fan of zoomies, toys, and walks. - Unique communicator: Grunts, groans, and moans — he’s got a lot to say! - Cautiously sweet: May be standoffish at first but warms up with time. What to know: Slinky has been returned from adoption due to biting. We’re still learning his triggers, but he does best with slow introductions, clear boundaries, and people who respect his space. He’s not suited for a home with kids or first-time dog owners. Ideal home: - Adult-only - Calm, structured environment - Dog-savvy adopter willing to continue training and build trust Slinky isn’t for everyone — but with the right person, he’ll be a funny, loyal little companion who keeps life interesting. *********************************************************************** Visit our website for an application to adopt. https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey What breed am I? Approximate Age: 3 years old Approximate Weight: 15lbs Meet Bar-S! - Dog friendly (after bit of slow introduction). Kid and probably cat friendly but not cat tested. - Crated for feeding but she prefers open crate with your company. Crate fed due to 4 other dogs at foster home. - Sleeping in foster moms bed under the covers. - Sweet, cuddling, kissy girl. - She does fuss a lot when foster mom has to go to store or step out, so may not fit in an apartment. - Decent leash manners. - She came from a hoard situation so many things will be a first for her. - Good house manners nearing perfect potty habits. *********************************************************************** Visit our website for an application to adopt. https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey What breed am I? If Raisin’s eyelashes aren’t enough to make you want to take her home, rest assured her personality will seal the deal! Raisin, as you can see in her pictures, came to us with a horrifying skin condition called “Sarcoptic Mange” . It’s very painful and very contagious. She spent 2 months in quarantine and recently tested negative for a follow up skin scrape! This means she is now ready to find her family! Raisin loves other dogs. She gives them kisses and wants to play. She doesn’t mind cats either. Her mom was a dachshund mix as we were told by another rescue group. Raisin’s litter was born 10/31/2024. She weighs approximately 20 pounds and will not get over 30 pounds full grown. She is stocky with short little legs and a long body. We do not know her mix and the only way to tell is a DNA test. Please do not apply to adopt if you’re looking for exact breed information. We rescue from shelters and most of the time, our breed suggestions are best guesses. Raisin is a beautiful pup who has so much love to give a family. She is unique physically and those lashes are sure to catch everyone’s attention! Story
Roxy is a funny little dog who is a lot of fun to have around. She is low maintenance, she loves going for long walks, and is always up for them (rain or shine). She loves walking around a fenced yard and really entertains herself just by exploring. She is super athletic she jumps on top of a 4 foot gate & walks on the top of it (on a skinny little metal pole) , so a fenced yard has to be pretty tall for her. It looks like she is a gymnast on a very skinny balance beam! She might be a great agility dog but unlike many dogs like that, she is not demanding. We joke because of her tough looks that she the is really a guardian angel disguised as small four-legged bouncer. She does not chew on things she shouldn't and goes outside of her run so we believe she is likely housetrained. If you are interested in Roxy please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Roxy! Story
Eve is a 2 yr old 22 lbs Dachshund/Corgi mix. She was living loose in a pack until being trapped and taken to shelter. She has learned that humans are pretty nice and she loves her foster mom very much. She thinks she should follow her EVERYWHERE. She does cry for a bit when put in laundry room at night or when left during day but she does settle. She also will alert you to any person coming your way and makes an effective and portable guard dog. She is vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped and goes in for a spay on 5/28. She needs to stay local to Warrenton VA until, after the spay but can go on a foster to adopt option locally. She is dog friendly, housebroken, hasn’t been crated yet and she shows no aggression towards cats. She could adjust to a variety of homes with an adopter willing to help her along.
