Story
PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - OSCAR BREED - Dachshund/Beagle mix SIZE - About 20 pounds AGE - 1 .5 years GENDER - Male MEDICAL CONCERNS - None known BEHAVIOR CONCERNS - None known SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Oscar is an awesome little guy who came to us in the fall from a central NC shelter. He had a noticeable limp so was evaluated at the shelter and determined to have a fractured right rear leg. Otherwise young and in very good health, we were super excited to bring Oscar into rescue and help him. Our vet referred him to the surgeons at the Virginia Veterinary Center for evaluation. The team met and felt that his leg was already beginning to form a good callus and given his ability to walk, run and jump on it, that he was in no real pain. He was put on strict cage rest to allow the leg to continue to heal on its own. Now, three months later, the X-rays show that the leg has healed and Oscar is ready to find his new home and family. And they must be a special family to match this special boy! Oscar loves everyone he meets! He is super sweet and playful, and would love a big, secure yard to play in. Fully grown at just 20 pounds, he is a perfect size for most homes! Oscar is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. We are seeking a home with an adopter able to work from home or be at home the majority of the day to spend time with him. A home without large pets or small children, and with a fenced, secure yard will be required for his adoption. Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Adopt a Pet inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of Oscar and our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and your family to meet Oscar at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting him and determining that he matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner. More information on our website at www.carerva.com.

Story
Meet Boedy, a small pup with a big personality! This 6-pound bundle of love is a one-year-old Miniature Dachshund and Rat Terrier mix who is full of life and ready to bring his energy and affection to a family of his own. Boedy loves nothing more than being near his people—whether it’s playing in the yard, following you around the house, or snuggling up for some quality cuddle time. His happy, social nature makes him an easy fit for just about any home. Boedy’s playful spirit shines brightest when he’s hanging out with kids, other dogs, or even cats—he truly loves everyone he meets. His medium-to-high energy level means he’ll enjoy an active family who can give him plenty of playtime and attention. Boedy is both house-trained and crate-trained, making the transition into a new home even smoother. He does get a little car sick on rides, so he’d appreciate some patience and preparation for any future road trips. While Boedy is still finishing up his vaccines and is not yet neutered or microchipped, don’t worry—both his neuter and microchip are included with his adoption fee. His future family will need to complete these appointments, but the cost is already covered by the rescue to help ensure Boedy gets the care he needs to live a happy, healthy life. If you’re looking for a small, affectionate, and joyful companion to fill your home with love and laughter, Boedy might just be the perfect match. Submit your application today to meet him! Disclaimer: Without a DNA test, the breed listed is only our best guess based on the animal’s appearance and any information we currently have.

Story
I am a lovable Dachshund mix. I like to follow Mommy around the house sometimes and wait on the porch for her to come home from work. I like to play with the kids but love it even more when they are rubbing me. When it's warm outside, I like to lay in the sun. I'm potty trained for pads and outside, I also sleep in a crate sometimes. Toys are not my thing, I prefer human interaction lol.

Story
DOB: 3/20/2022 Approximate Weight: 20lbs Meet Slinky! Slinky is a lovable, low-riding goofball with a big personality and a lot of feelings. He’s playful, affectionate on his terms, and full of quirky charm — but he’s also a work in progress who needs the right match. The good stuff: - Dog & cat friendly: Gets along with small dogs and cats (though may play-chase). - Velcro vibes: Loves snuggling close, especially at bedtime. - Playful & silly: Big fan of zoomies, toys, and walks. - Unique communicator: Grunts, groans, and moans — he’s got a lot to say! - Cautiously sweet: May be standoffish at first but warms up with time. What to know: Slinky has been returned from adoption due to biting. We’re still learning his triggers, but he does best with slow introductions, clear boundaries, and people who respect his space. He’s not suited for a home with kids or first-time dog owners. Ideal home: - Adult-only - Calm, structured environment - Dog-savvy adopter willing to continue training and build trust Slinky isn’t for everyone — but with the right person, he’ll be a funny, loyal little companion who keeps life interesting. *********************************************************************** Visit our website for an application to adopt. https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey What breed am I? Mixed mutt! ODHS does not breed label (unless there's official paperwork), as studies show it is nearly impossible to tell the exact breed of each dog based off of their appearance. Educational article: 3/3/3 rule: https://www.rescuedogs101.com/bringing-new-dog-home-3-3-3-rule/?fbclid=IwAR2iv5m7fqk3FieO7LOsstGeGsYYV_F1rJOd1BPxaImofLpcinpYsUbFRWs Adoption Donations are $275 for an adult, $375 for puppies (a dog under one year of age), and $175 for a senior dog (based on the age of the dog). More "sought out breeds" may have a higher adoption donation) Adoption donations are to be made via cash, or credit/debit card. There is a $5 fee to run cards. We do not accept checks for adoption fees. Please remember to bring a martingale collar and leash (non-retractable) with you the day of the adoption. We typically have adoption events on Wednesdays 5-7pm, Fridays 6-8pm, and 11 to 3pm. Our adoption center is located at 3602 Lafayette Blvd, Suite 101, Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
