Meet Slinky!
Slinky is a lovable, low-riding goofball with a big personality and a lot of feelings. He’s playful, affectionate on his terms, and full of quirky charm — but he’s also a work in progress who needs the right match.
The good stuff:
- Dog & cat friendly: Gets along with small dogs and cats (though may play-chase).
- Velcro vibes: Loves snuggling close, especially at bedtime.
- Playful & silly: Big fan of zoomies, toys, and walks.
- Unique communicator: Grunts, groans, and moans — he’s got a lot to say!
- Cautiously sweet: May be standoffish at first but warms up with time.
What to know:
Slinky has been returned from adoption due to biting. We’re still learning his triggers, but he does best with slow introductions, clear boundaries, and people who respect his space. He’s not suited for a home with kids or first-time dog owners.
Ideal home:
- Adult-only
- Calm, structured environment
- Dog-savvy adopter willing to continue training and build trust
Slinky isn’t for everyone — but with the right person, he’ll be a funny, loyal little companion who keeps life interesting.

What breed am I? Mixed mutt! ODHS does not breed label (unless there's official paperwork), as studies show it is nearly impossible to tell the exact breed of each dog based off of their appearance.

Adoption Donations are $275 for an adult, $375 for puppies (a dog under one year of age), and $175 for a senior dog (based on the age of the dog). More "sought out breeds" may have a higher adoption donation) Adoption donations are to be made via cash, or credit/debit card. There is a $5 fee to run cards. We do not accept checks for adoption fees.
Please remember to bring a martingale collar and leash (non-retractable) with you the day of the adoption.
We typically have adoption events on Wednesdays 5-7pm, Fridays 6-8pm, and 11 to 3pm. Our adoption center is located at 3602 Lafayette Blvd, Suite 101, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. It's important that you keep an eye on your emails for any changes or updates during the adoption process.
Old Dominion Humane Society is a volunteer based organization. We are run completely by volunteers, who also have full time jobs, so we appreciate your patience. Currently, the average timeframe for a response to your application is 1 week.
