When Obi first arrived at the shelter on January 3rd, he broke our hearts. This handsome brown-spotted Dalmatian was painfully emaciated, clearly having been through more than any dog should. Day by day, meal by meal, and with a lot of gentle care, Obi slowly worked his way back to a healthy weight — and along the way, we discovered something special about him: his spirit never lost its shine.Obi had what’s lovingly called “happy tail.” His tail wagged constantly — against anything nearby — and it repeatedly split open and bled. No matter how uncomfortable it was, he just couldn’t stop showing his joy. Our amazing medical team ultimately made the compassionate decision to amputate part of his tail so he could finally heal and stop accidentally hurting himself. True to Obi form, he has not let it dampen his happiness one bit.What has been hardest for Obi isn’t the physical recovery — it’s the loneliness. Life can be tough for a dog who thrives on connection, and Obi absolutely lives for people time. When someone stops to sit with him, his whole body lights up. He leans in, soaks up affection, and reminds you just how deeply dogs can love. Obi has come such a long way: from underweight and hurting to healthier, brighter, and still endlessly affectionate. Now he just needs the final piece of his journey — a home where he won’t have to heal alone anymore.Due to Obi`s needs, he is not an ideal canidate for apartment living. FWACC reserves the right to place me in my best fit home.
