Story
Meet Wilma!Wilma is a 6-year-old mixed-breed Doberman Pinscher with a gentle and thoughtful nature. She's a gentle soul who is still learning that the world isn't such a scary place, and she grows braver with each passing day. While many dogs her age already know the joy of toys and walks, Wilma is beginning to discover these things at her own pace, and we see her learning everyday.Wilma truly shines during quiet, cozy moments. Some of her favorite things include relaxing in her bed, enjoying tasty treats and snacks, working on a Kong, and spending time with her beloved sisters. She came into our care alongside three other dogs, and despite an unstable past, the bond between them has been a source of great comfort. Watching her sisters gain confidence has helped Wilma do the same, often by following their lead and finding the courage to try something new.Wilma is sweet and calm, and as her confidence continues to grow, she has begun to show glimpses of her playful side. She enjoys quiet companionship and is happiest in a peaceful environment where she can feel safe and supported.Since Wilma came into care with her siblings, a home with a calm, confident dog may be beneficial for her, provided slow and proper introductions are done. An understanding family who is prepared to take things slowly and guide her through this next chapter will be essential in helping Wilma truly thrive.Do you think you could be Wilma's person? Story
Hellooo wonderful people out there!! My name is Rexy. Let me share a few details about me... Age:  1 yr, 8 mos    Breed: Doberman   Weight:  70 lbs    Height:  I'm small for my breed. Exact measurements to follow Features:  calm, playful, I love to cuddle and any form of kind attention, no aggression whatsoever! I was born in Greater Vancouver and was adopted by a nice woman who loves me dearly. It's just that I am her first dog and she is finding it challenging to meet my very typical dog needs like walks when she has other responsibilities in life. As a result, she has made the hard decision to rehome me. I am aware of how hard this decision was for her but she will feel better when I find my wonderful forever adopter. I am hoping that that person has a yard for me to run around in, a few nice nature walks close to home, perhaps a friendly dog park for me to socialize at, and in-home humans who will love to play, cuddle, and generally be my adoring pack.  I love to chase a ball (and I even bring it back)! I also love to show you what skills I already have...like sit, wait, come, high five, shake a paw, and lie down. I like the treats when I do these things but I think I'd probably do them anyway because of my love for my human pack members. A really good feature about me is that I have been around young children and I have treated them with the utmost of respect. That being said, they also treated me with respect so it was a win-win. I even enjoy trying to play with the kitties although I've found that not all of them are as comfortable with me. I think it will just take them time to get to know me as I am respectful of everyone including kids, cats, and other dogs.  There are a few things I'm still working on but, hey, they're no big deal, especially given my general stellar qualities (haha).I'm still working on leash walking as I still pull a bit but I show no inappropriate behaviours around other dogs. Some men and people on bicycles can frighten me if they come close without me first being introduced to them. My response when I'm afraid is to simply pull back. Once I get introduced and I see that someone is kind, I give them a huge welcome. Another thing I'm working on is distancing myself from squirrels as I currently have a bit of a prey drive towards them. I think it might also be the case that I simply want to play with them as I have never been without the care of a human and so never had to catch my own dinner. Okay, you now know a bit about me. Can I learn a bit about you! Perhaps you'd like to go for a walk with me and see what a wonderful dog I am. I am available whenever my current human can be free. She is very much looking forward to me having a loving home with wonderful walks, hugs, cuddles, games, and adventures. Could you be the one to love me for the rest of my life?!! Energy Level: moderateI get along with:Dogs: yesCats: likelyKids: yes Fears: I find a few men a bit scary, and also bicycles that come up and surprise me. Please be patient assisting me in my transition.Training:Leash skills: yes. Please be prepared to continue training.House trained: yes. Please help me learn where to go in my new home setting. Health notes:I am about to be neutered. I have been vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $800.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with some younger children. Children of any age need to have been taught respectful behaviours with dogs as pulling of ears/tail or any form of hitting a dog is both unkind and unacceptable, even when carried out by children. More information can be found on our website. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.Information included in this profile is provided to us by a local rehoming adopter. LALDR does not have access to a dog's specific history and cannot always verify the accuracy of a previous owner's descriptions. In addition every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. ##2626551##
