Story
Honey is a sweet two year old Doberman/husky mix. Sadly, her mommy has a terminal illness and has reached out to us to find Honey the perfect forever home. Honey is spayed, up-to-date on all required vaccines, HW negative and micro chipped. Honey is sweet and affectionate but a little awkward. She just needs a little bit of training to become that perfect dog. Training her mom just hasn’t been up to lately. Honey has one beautiful blue eye and the most adorable ears I’ve ever seen. She weighs about 55 pounds. She would do well with older children that wouldn't be knocked over as well as a good natured doggy sibling. If you would like to give this cutie pie a place in your family while putting her current mom at ease, please email dogs4mylife@gmail.com or omlc7@hotmail.com and we will send our information and application. Story
AMELIA is a young adult at a little over 1 year old. She was found wandering alone and was never claimed. She is a gentle dog who's eager to please. *Video of her can be seen on our Facebook page here. Be sure to check out our Facebook page!! Wyandotte Animal Shelter (https://www.facebook.com/wacshelter/) for day to day updates on our cats and dogs. :) Thank you for your interest in adopting! NOTE: If any questions are left unanswered or incomplete, the application cannot be processed. A completely filled out application will take 1-3 days to process! 4. We will set up a time with you to meet the animal you've applied to adopt! ** We DO give preference to applicants with verifiable dog experience (as a primary caretaker). All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative unless otherwise indicated. All are up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and current on heartworm prevention! Additional questions... IS THIS DOG SAFE WITH CATS? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH CHILDREN? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. WHY IS THIS DOG IN THE SHELTER? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog

Story
Carter is one special character - he is a red Doberman with a docked tail, floppy ears and medium build (healthy weight 60-65 lbs). Carter loves playing; rough housing, tossing toys, running and bouncing around. His 'special' character is his complete lack of maturity. Poorly socialized, but we also suspect, Carter was dropped on his head as a puppy or maybe fetal alcohol syndrome, his goofy face shows some developmental signs (eyes are too far apart) but otherwise, he's just HAPPY and DUMB. He is dog friendly, will let other males dominate him or push him down. He can be nippy due to his constant state of puppy - not mean, other dogs correct him. His foster has been working on his nippy, teethy grab for treats and awareness of hands. He needs a yard to run and downtime inside in a kennel with his stuffies at naptime. Due to Carter's low IQ - we recommend a home with older teens so no one gets mad that he takes fingers with treats when overstimulated. Training will take time, repeat and focus - maybe even a few beers for his humans. Carter SMILES the entire time and is happy to be in training, but retains little. Dobermans are known for their incredible ability to learn and observe to teach themselves. Carter identifies as a Lizard some days, other days as a Chicken. We have tried to explain to him, his amazing breed and the expectations. We want him to be LOVED for his goofiness. Favorite Color: HOT PINK Favorite Toy: Stuffed Bear Favorite Food: Meatballs by Milo's Kitchen HIS-STORY: This dude was kicked out of his home for being 'too puppy' - the shelter called rescue and it was noted, Carter did not know how to walk on a leash, was not house trained or used to any commands. He was in 'play' mode all the time and happy to have dog friends. Crate trained to force some routine and sanity at his foster home, Carter has matured (slightly) and has (some) manners. Now neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm treated (he tested positive at intake). FOSTERED IN TEXAS. *Adoption Fee includes transport to PNW, Midwest or NY-NJ-CT-VA-VT states by pet transport partners. Email to Apply! Story
Commander Bo is a stunning strong blue Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He has the 'look' that everyone loves - however, even he ended up abandoned in Brazoria County. Bo was skinny, poor coat, heartworm positive and with an URI when we met him. He was quick to take meals and guarded his food/treats initially. With time, he took treats gently when reminded and would be gentle with his foster humans. Due to Bo's size and assertiveness, older children would be ok. Bo needs to be given directions otherwise, he will do whatever he wants. He appears to be around 6 years old and future medical needs will include dental care. Bo rides nicely in a car and likes to go for walks, leash training is new to him, but he listens to confident adults. He is used to being the biggest dog around, so he does play with other dogs - mainly females and a few younger puppy males. Bo will challenge other strong willed males (bulldogs, alphas, chihuahuas) by barking and lunging. Based on Bo's need to be the 'Commander' of the pack - he would be best in a home with female dogs, big girls who will play with him. Bo is crate trained and enjoys a large comforter for curling up. He has not shown interest in toys. His play style is very juvenile and the other lab puppies tolerate his nipping and mouthy (grabbing by the neck) play. We suspect he did not have other dog friends before or this is his first time being encouraged to 'be a dog' and play supervised but unrestricted. We would not recommend dog parks for older dogs like Bo who lack some social clues and see most dog behavior as threatening. He can be introduced to dogs who will be part of his family or regular playmates, supervised for corrections. There is no doubt, Bo loves people and attention. He gives hugs to his foster mom and has quickly learned 'sit' - a necessary command since he would headbutt people out of excitement. He is housetrained but will mark if males are around. Vaccinated, Neutered, Microchipped, heartworm treated-on prevention. FOSTERED IN TEXAS. *Adoption Fee includes XL crate fee on transport to PNW, Midwest or NY-NJ-CT-VA-VT states by pet transport partners. Adoption Fee reflects the need for an XL crate at travel. Story
He's smart. He's lovable. He's Dexter, a Doberman Pincher who spends his days seeking attention and his nights dreaming of solving crimes. He can't be a forensics expert because he's afraid of the dark. Dexter (blue collar) struggled to want to eat and play when he first came to his foster home, he needed time to decompress and a few extra treats to fill out his physique. He is now 68 lbs and housetrained, crate trained, QUIET and Submissive. He enjoys being around other dogs. Dexter seeks affirmations from humans and is very gentle. Video: https://youtube.com/shorts/Efi6FMVGlDs?si=BP-gbYNeq2Ea30gQ Dexter is healthy, neutered and Heartworm negative on prevention. FOSTERED IN TEXAS. *Adoption Fee includes fee by van transport to PNW, Midwest or NY-NJ-CT-VA-VT states by pet transport partners. He was stressed out and became very thin. The shelter kennel tech knew to call us! We are so grateful to SPCA of Brazoria County for giving him shelter, keeping him safe while our foster home prepared for Dexter.
