Story
Petty, aka "Max" is a lovable young senior dog looking for a retired or work-at-home human/family to share the rest of his life with. He has been three-legged since aged two, has learned to adapt all his daily activities, and travels very well. Although he gets along with other dogs, he does not play with younger ones (because of balance issues during play) or very small dogs. He does not seem to want to play fetch nor does he use chew toys. Indeed, he does not chew on anything but food, and is highly food motivated. He is also very human oriented, but followed the lead of his foster brother when he learned new house rules. He walks extremely well, but pulls on occasion when squirrels or rabbits are nearby. He walks fine with a Gentle Leader, but his gait is hopped, so his owner needs to be someone with good balance, who will be able to walk him several times a day, as he continues to rebuild strength and distance/endurance. He loves to be outdoors and walk on leash. A medium-sized fenced yard would be an additional bonus for this dog as he is an active and young senior.Having said that, Max would also be a wonderful companion dog and fellow couch potato at night. He seems to be much more Chocolate Lab than Red Doberman, with a strong lab lean, and would love to lie on the couch next to a human. He does not sit on laps, but would love to be on the bed sleeping next to his human. I would not expect him to break that habit easily (although he is trying). Max will also counter-surf if he can get away with it. Having lost his last owner, Max does have some minor anxiety issues over separation, and does not enjoy being crated. He is not destructive, though, and tolerates being confined to a room with music and his foster brother when the humans are gone from the house. He has no toileting issues doing his business outside, and sleeps very well at night. He knows many commands, and will give a bark when someone approaches the house or yard. He infrequently can give off an aura which can intimidate some less secure dogs, but really he is a loving goofball, and has done very well with dogs, kids and toddlers at the local Farmers' Market and adoption events. He loves meeting people! Max would love to have a stable home with an active adult/family to spend his senior years. He is very healthy, loves being groomed, and getting attention, affection, and slow but steady exercise. FOCCAS is a foster based, non-profit rescue in Crossville, TN. The adoption fee Includes Age-Appropriate Vaccinations (DA2PPV, Bordetella, Rabies), Deworming, Spay/Neuter, Microchip, Flea/Tick/Heartworm Prevention, and Sheltering. Story
Melanie — 3 years old, 82 lbs, Doberman/German Shepherd Mix Stunning. Loyal. Athletic. Total lovebug. Melanie came to us after being found in a drainage ditch with her three puppies. Her babies have all been adopted, and now it’s her turn to finally be someone’s whole world. She’s a young adult with a big heart, a bright mind, and a ton of love to give.   Melanie is a true working-breed girl. She thrives with structure, routine, and an active family who appreciates a smart, athletic dog. She loves long walks, running, exploring, and especially tennis balls. Once her energy is out, she’s perfectly content to curl up on the couch and soak up affection.   She is wonderful with people and has been fostered with kids 10+ with no issues. She’s friendly, affectionate, goofy, and loves being included in whatever her humans are doing. She’s attended her foster’s weekend ball games and quickly became the star of the sidelines.   Melanie has lived with other dogs and does best with easygoing, confident medium-to-large dogs who match her play style. She’s enthusiastic and full of “big dog energy,” so she’ll pair best with dogs who enjoy active, athletic play. Puppies bring out her sweet maternal side, and she enjoys their company. Intros with adult dogs should simply be done mindfully, like with any strong, energetic working-breed dog.   She walks well on leash, rides beautifully in the car, is crate-trained at night, and has settled into home life with ease. She loves the rain, loves her people even more, and is the definition of a loyal companion.     Ideal Home • Active family familiar with working breeds (not required!) • Children 10+ • Space to run and play • Another easygoing, confident dog is welcome but not required • Someone who loves a big dog with an even bigger heart   If you’re looking for a smart, stunning, devoted dog who will be your adventure buddy and your couch buddy, Melanie is your girl. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)   To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   PLEASE READ:     •    If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this.     •    All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date.     •    Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments.   Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well.   Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation.   For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.   ##2310581##
