Story
We temporarily broke our CA intake freeze because we knew we were Sol’s only hope. Another sweet, overbred mama dog dumped by yet another NorCal backyard breeder. She was founded a stray and the backyard breeder doesn't care to respond to anyone, so now she's safe with us!! Sol was found by two very sweet elderly ladies and kept safe the last week while we’ve been trying to scramble for a plan. (Look how happy she was that they saved her!) Sol had to be taken to the ER vet yesterday for a suspected seizure. Her exam and bloodwork showed that her kidneys weren’t functioning well and that she was presenting with symptoms of a possible pyometra, a uterine infection. She stayed overnight for observation and to prep her body for surgery today. Sol was in surgery for several hours. She had cysts throughout her ovaries and uterus that spread into the tissues of the abdomen. During removal of the surrounding cyst, her bowel was torn. Luckily it was able to repaired. In addition to all of the above, she has started to have respiratory complications. The vet also mentions prior abdominal scarrings that could possibly be from c-sections in the past. She is currently in post op recovery receiving all the supportive care available to help her fight through this. Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo!

Story
My name is Cashew and I am 7 years old. I’m a Dogo Argentino who just loves life! I enjoy the outdoors and being with my humans. Being with me means you will need to put up with being loved a lot! I can be very demanding with my cuddles and I enjoy giving hugs too. Check out my pics! I am deaf so sometimes I don’t know what is happening around me, but that doesn’t put a damper on my zest for life! I enjoy chasing shadows and I love water. I do great in a large yard and am low maintenance, as I am happy and able to entertain myself with my toys. I am house trained and crate trained, and I like to sleep in my crate with my blankie. I can be barrier and leash reactive, but I have been living in a home with a dog and a social cat without any incidents. That being said, I do bark at the cat which could make other cats uncomfortable. I have shown to get along with both small and large dogs with proper and slow introductions. I’m medium energy and when in the home I’m a total couch potato. I have also been in a home with children of all ages including toddlers. I am hoping for a forever family of my very own who will love and play with me and give me the affection I so desire. In return you will get the most loyal of friends and I come with my own large crate, blankie, bowls and toys! If you’d like to meet me please contact Martina Animal Rescue at martinaanimalrescue@yahoo.com or text Laura at 916-996-5777. Application, home check and adoption fee required.
