Story
UPDATE*** 💎 TWO YEARS 💎 I’ve been waiting to be adopted for two years 😢 💎 Hi, my name is Jewel, or as my foster parents call me Juju, Ju bug, Miss Sassy Pants or Miss Woo Woo. I am an expert in all things cuddling. I have a big personality but can be timid around new people. Due to my past I can lack confidence at times and look to my big brother and cousins on who I can trust and how to dog. But once I know you and know I can trust you, I will be your shadow and best friend! 💎 I love waking my foster parents up in the morning telling them all about my doggo dreams and adventures I had, hence the nick name Miss Sassy Pants and Miss Woo Woo. I really love to talk and express how happy and eager I am to eat and get my morning walk! 💎 Yes, despite me being HW+ and having some annoying tick borne diseases (which are being managed with medication) I am an excellent walking/ hiking buddy. Most days we get to walk 4+ miles a day. I have a great nose and eyes for all the critters. I love watching and smelling for them while I walk, it can be exhausting some times but I’m just doing my job! So, needless to say after that kind of activity I become an even better couch potato for the remainder of the day. 💎 I am house trained, know some basic commands and am gentle and aware of my size around little people. Oh, and how could I forget to mention… I LOVE the water! Lakes, ponds, pools, water bowls… truly whatever I can get to cool myself off. I’m from Houston after all. A girl had to learn how to keep herself cool! My foster parents call me extra because I got my own pool. But I can’t help it, I like what I like! 💦 💎 Okay, so back to the matter at hand. If you are looking for a 95lb love bug who will be loyal and loving and potentially throw some sass around from time to time, I’m your girl! Please consider taking a chance on me, I promise you won’t regret it! We saved Jewel (formerly Harper) from a Houston shelter within hours of her euthansia deadline. She is heartworm positive, has demodex, and suffers from an old gunshot wound to her right front ankle. We think she is about 4 years old, possibly younger and has had a very difficult and rough life so far but it will never be that way again. She is timid and shy to humam touch but we know she will recover over time and come out of her shell as she learns to trust us! Stay tuned for updates and we expect the earliest she would be available for adoption is early June. Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo! DCDogos is committed to rescuing Dogos.
