Story
Zeus is 10-11 years old and weighs about 125 pounds. This guy is definitely not for everyone: as a Bullmastiff he is naturally suspicious of anyone and anything that might be a threat to his special person or his territory; he has some triggers from his past life that can cause him to misinterpret innocent motions as threatening, so care must always be taken when handling him; he is well past the normal lifespan of his breed and has the intervetrebral disk disease and spinal arthritis to show for it; and he requires a twice daily thyroid pill. However, his aches and pains are readily managed with standard medications, he adores his somewhat ponderous walk each morning, and treats and meals still give him a thrill. For obvious reasons, this big guy should not live with children or in an apartment, but a single person who is experienced with oversized, somewhat cranky dogs could be considered as an adopter. Zeus should have at least a modest-sized fenced yard to snuffle around in and, If he lives with any other animals, he must have his own separate space.   If you are viewing this pet's profile on Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet,.please use the application link at the bottom of the profile to apply. Clicking the "Ask About" button does not submit an application. It only submits a question which will delay an application submission.    All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative (age 7 months and older) and microchipped. We do not ship or transport. A dog's adoption donation is $100. There is a $5 fee for credit/debit cards. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please fill out an online application here: www.heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org/canine-application.html ##1281505##

Story
Just one look at this guy and you can't help but wonder why he was given the name Chicken? We do not have a clue. He is a senior guy looking for a home to spend out the later years of his life with all the comforts that a loving home will provide. Chicken still has a good amount of energy, but at the end of the day, he would simply prefer to curl up in your favorite chair, if you will let him, or a plush dog bed. He would do best with older children and a quieter lifestyle since that is what he had in his prior home. Come meet this guy and check out his big soulful eyes.
