Story
New Hanover County, NC animal control reached out to Feline Matchmakers with an SOS for Kricket. She was surrendered to the shelter by people who "couldn't afford" to keep her anymore. Unfortunatley for Kricket, this was a tragedy. She was completely freaked out in the small cage and could not be handled by staff. At a shelter, this only means one thing. So we jumped in and brought her in to our care. With a vet visit and some blood work, we found she had pancreatitus. We treated her and it made a world of difference in her attitude. All health issues have been resolved! Kricket was adopted in to a home with no other cats, her preference. She gave comfort and joy to an elderly lady (who recently passed away) and her caretaker daughter, but now the daughter can not keep Kricket for various reasons. Kricket is now available for adoption again. In order to reduce her stress, we have left her in the daughter's care and will hold meetings for Kricket in her "foster home." Kricket needs a nice, calm household, preferably with no other pets. If there are other pets, they need to be the kind that will ignore her and give her space. Kricket is a dominant female and won't take any smack from others. As an only cat, she is loving and chatty at times. She will require patience in adapting to a new home though; she's not instantly comfortable and will need a few weeks. We would prefer to have her in a Foster-To-Adopt situation for an approved applicant. All Feline Matchmakers cats get age appropriate vaccinations, fixed, tested and microchipped prior to adoption. Story
UPDATE: Ellie May was adopted in 2021. Unfortunately, they went against our adoption policy and fully declawed her, then a few years later, further negated our adoption policy by surrendering her to a shelter. She is once again safe back with us. She will have to loose some weight and get shaved due to heavy matting. We will be overly cautious about who adopts Miss Kelli (previously Ellie May) this time! Ellie May is an owner surrender because the owner is in failing health and can no longer look after her. She's not a fan of dogs, but can adapt to other cats. She is a princess and would rather not share the spotlight. She would likely do ok with another cat with a slow introduction and a space to call her own. She enjoys short jaunts outside on a harness and leash, but has never been a free roamer outside and prefers to be indoors most of the time. She needs a low stress, quiet household. She's not one for drama. All Feline Matchmakers cats get age appropriate vaccinations, fixed, tested and microchipped prior to adoption. Please fill in our application via this link: http://www.felinematchmakers.org. We only adopt kittens and young cats out within a one hour radius of Wilmington, NC. Occasionally we make exceptions for adult cats, but we are not a transport company. IF YOU DO NOT MEET THESE GUIDELINES, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED. ##1469310##

Story
Please note there is no need to complete an adoption questionnaire this   adoption site . We only need our   Adoption Application Questionnaire completed. September 2, 2025   See Orange Roughy’s new photo perching in a cat tree. It has now been over 3 years since these gorgeous cats, Orange Roughy and his brother Guppy (posted separately) were rescued. They were just kittens when I trapped & saved them from a seafood production plant that was closing down. The kittens had been traumatized, starved & constantly dodging massive tractor trailer trucks & equipment. They were pitiful & barely alive when I finally caught them. These 2 brothers have come through a tremendous journey. They are both now healthy & kind, but still very very cautious especially around someone new. We have worked hard to help them gain confidence and feel safe, but no one will adopt them or give them a chance. Most adopters are looking for a “purrfect” cat that will make themselves happy. I'm looking for that selfless adopter that wants to save a life or two because that is what paying it forward & rescue work is all about. These two beautiful sweet boys need time & love. If you think you have patience & a big heart for the not-so-purrfect cats, give me a call! As soon as you meet these precious souls, your heart will tell you what to do. I feel so sorry for these cats after so many rescues have come & gone and they still wait for a chance of a home. Orange Roughy is the big, beautiful long haired orange boy and Guppy is his gorgeous orange & white brother. I pray for them every day. I know their angel adopter is out there somewhere!
