Story
Meet Coconut & Sesame.  They are bonded brothers, who are looking for just the right home. They can both be a bit nervous when meeting new people, so it can be a bit tricky for them to shine, but they both have gentle and kind personalities. They will really blossom into wonderful kitties if given the right family.  They are quite bonded, so really want a home together.  These two and their siblings were born outside to a stray cat, last spring. The poor kitty received some injuries and was doing her best to raise a litter of kittens with limited resources, but they needed help. They were rescued by a team of volunteers and came into care when they were about 6 weeks old. Although it took them a little bit of time to get used to being handled by people and living indoors, they are just shy of 12 months old now love hanging out with their people. Coconut (tuxedo) is quite a calm kitten. He will be shy when he first meets you, but if you take the time to sit with him and let him see that you're not scary, he will warm up quickly. He loves food (a great way to build trust with him) so he is probably a cat that will need measured feedings as he grows rather than being free-fed.   Although Coconut is quiet and calm most of the time, he can become very energetic when the toys come out. He loves chasing string toys, playing with scratching posts, and climbing the cat tree. He's an independent kitten and often leads his littermates in games.  Once he's done playing he loves to curl up on the couch with you for some cuddles and purrs. Sesame (black) is vocal and likes to talk to you. He loves to rub on your legs as you try to move through the house, telling you about his day (therefore he wont be the right fit for someone who has mobility challenges or is unsteady on their feet.)  He is a long, athletic boy, and although he can by a bit shy when it comes to meeting new people, he's full of energy and loves to play. Sesame was the first kitten in his litter to start playing with his foster family, when he first arrived in care . Play is absolutely the key to this boy's heart. He has lots of energy and loves to run around chasing toys of all kinds: string toys, scratching posts, ping pong balls, you name it.  Sesame's second favourite thing (next to toys) is eating. He loves his food and will eat out of your hand if you give him treats. It may take this guy a while to warm up to new people and gain that trust, but once he does, he's a great little cat.  He loves to be held by people he trusts and will fall asleep curled up in your arms. He purrs loudly if you rub his head. These boys were previously in foster home with cat-savvy dogs and they seemed comfortable around them. They are also good with other cats, so would do well in a home with other cats (as long as there are regular feeding times - not free feeding.) This pair would be OK as just the two of them in a home, without other pets as well. They are not comfortable being around young children that move fast or speak loudly; but they seem OK with teenagers and older. Story
Ginger and Momo are a bonded pair of kitties who are looking for a special home together. This pair came to us from a home with an excessive number of cats that were not socialized properly when they were young. Ginger was heavily pregnant when she was rescued and she and Momo did a great job raising their kittens. This pair has since been spayed/neutered and now it's their turn to find a loving home. They have both come a very long way socially since they first came to us, but they still have a long way to go. Ginger and Momo are both shy kitties who are specifically looking for a home that is experienced working with under-socialized cats. They also need a home where there is already an existing cat (or cats) to help them acclimate to a new environment. This pair arrived in our care in March 2021 and it took them until August to start coming out of their shells. They spent most of their time hiding and avoiding contact with humans. They are now both interactive, chatty, and social in the sense of wanting to be able to see what's going on in the house and not hiding any more, but neither cat is comfortable being touched. Momo will allow handling if he doesn't have the option to run away, but Ginger is still feisty if you try to handle her. We cannot guarantee that either of these kitties will ever be excited about being touched or handled, but we expect that they will become comfortable members of their new family. They really need someone who is willing to give them the home that they deserve to blossom in their own time. These two are great with other cats and will do best in a home with existing cats. The other cats in their foster home really helped them come out of their shells and assisted with their socializing. They are also eating Royal Canin Calm Diet and get Purina Calming Care supplement to help them feel more comfortable while they continue with socialization. Neither cat is very playful so a home with older, more quiet cats might be better than a house full of energy. This pair is not at all comfortable with dogs. In their previous home the only experience that they had with dogs was negative so they are terrified of K9s. They need an adult-only home. If you would like to learn more about Ginger and Momo, please contact us at victoriapets@gmail.com.

Story
Valka and her kittens, Tuffnut (aka Tuffy), and Toothless (aka Toofy) are a really special trio of cats and we're looking for the perfect home for them. Valka spent most of her short life living on her own, fending for herself as a stray. This past summer she had 3 kittens and when they were quite young they became ill and one of the kittens sadly passed away. We were able to catch the family shortly thereafter and have nursed them back to health. This family is so bonded to one another that we would really love to see them stay together long-term. Toofy & Tuffy were born as feral kittens and have come a very long way since then, but they need to find just the right home to help them thrive and continue on with their socialization. Valka is a domestic cat but she obviously has significant trauma from the experiences that she's had and it takes her a really long time to learn how to trust new people. It will take a very special person to give this trio the right home, but if you are an experienced cat-caregiver and are comfortable working with under-socialized cats, we'd love to hear from you. Toofy is the black & white kitten and he was the more curious and forward of the two brothers at first. He may be the smaller of the two, but Toofy was the first one to be brave enough to accept attention and handling from his foster mom. The key to this boy's heart is through food, but he can be a bit pushy for his food too so you have to find a balance. If he knows that you have food for him he gets grabby. Once Toofy trusts you, he is sweet and follows you around asking for attention. He has a wonderful purr and is a real gentleman. Tuffy (orange) is the more dominant of the two kittens once he's settled in, but he started out much less brave than his brother and it took a long time for his confidence to build. When he first arrived he would hiss, spit, and strike at his foster mom (out of fear) if she got too close. She spent a long time building his trust and Tuffy is actually quite pushy now and barges his way to the front of the line to get attention. He is now the more forward and friendly of the two kittens and really just craves attention. Like his brother, he does sometimes give love-nips when he gets over-stimulated during a cuddle session. Tuffy will purr, and rub, and roll around to get attention but every few pets he gets a bit over-stimulated and he will nip at his foster mom. She will take a very brief time out from petting him and then go right back to it until Tuffy starts to get over-stimulated again. He is learning quickly and does understand the word 'no' but it's important for his new owner to have a good handle on how to read Tuffy's body language and have experience working with under-socialized cats. These two boys are food motivated, which makes them a bit easier to work with. Valka takes a lot longer than her boys do to trust a new person and will definitely spend a lot of time hiding when she goes to her new home. She really needs someone to give her space and let her come out of her shell at her own pace. Valka really follows the lead of her boys so once they start to trust someone and interact with them, she starts to trust as well. Once she trusts you, she will rub on you, purr, and interact gently. This trio will do well in the right home. They have the potential to become the best little companions but it is going to take them quite a while to get used to a new home and develop trust with a new person (or people.) It took their current foster mom several months before any of them would allow handling. They are afraid of dogs because before they came into our care they were in an environment where they were regularly chased by aggressive dogs. They have been around other cats and are OK with them as long as the other cats are nice to them. It is very important that they go to an adult-only home; they cannot be around children. If you are interested in this trio, please visit https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/ to learn about our adoption process and to find a copy of our adoption application. We'd love to hear about your home and previous experience with under-socialized cats. Please note that this trio is only available for adoption to those living on southern Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands.
