Story
I was part of a litter called the Seasoning Squad! I was adopted in 2025 and now I'm back through no fault of my own. My people just didn't have a place for me to stay with them when they moved. I'm thought to be a dutch shepherd mix, but probably a mix of a lot of things. I am a good girl and hoping you'll give me a chance to show it. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2498421##

Story
Sarge is a 5-year-old family dog who has been with us since we adopted him from a shelter at about 3 months old. He is a sweet, loving dog who becomes very attached to his people. He can be a little shy, but once he is comfortable, he is affectionate and happy to see the people he knows. He is friendly with adults and children and has never shown aggression toward people. He is house-trained, neutered, and up to date on his vaccinations. Sarge would do best in a home where he is the only pet. He does have a history of serious aggression toward other dogs, so he needs to be the only pet in his new home. Sarge can jump very high, so a home with a tall, secure privacy fence would be preferable to help keep him safely contained. He also currently has a skin issue/irritation that has not yet been evaluated or diagnosed by a veterinarian. I am looking for a responsible, experienced home where he can be the only pet and receive the care and attention he needs.

Meet our beautiful, high energy German Shepherd. She is an incredibly smart, independent girl who loves people and thrives on affection. Inside the house, she is a loyal, loving companion. She is great with kids and loves being around them, though she does try to herd children when they move around. She has never hurt a person or animal, lives happily with our pets, and has recently met new dogs with zero issues. Since having our baby, we simply do not have the time to give her the heavy exercise and attention she deserves. She is a working breed with an excitable, frenzied energy when amped up. She needs an active owner who will physically work with her. She has an intense prey drive outside. If she catches a small animal or if food is involved, she will loudly guard it from other dogs. She has never injured another animal, but will get into loud scuffles over her prize. Outside of food and prey, she is totally fine. She will thrive with an experienced handler with a secure yard.
