Hunter #3 | 8yo Chi/Beagle Mix | Your little snuggle bug Hunter is an adorable 8-year-old, 24-pound Chi mix who may have some Beagle in him, and he is one seriously cute little guy. Hunter is sweet, calm, playful, and a wonderful snuggler who loves belly rubs, pets, and burrowing under the covers. He has a particularly adorable habit of diving his head into your leg, the bed, or the couch when he’s feeling playful before rolling around for attention. He enjoys short walks and does beautifully on leash, usually staying right by his person without pulling. He’s content with about 15–30 minutes of activity once or twice a day and then is happy to settle in and relax. He also gets some fun zoomies outside and is always excited to see his people when they come home. Hunter is wonderful with other dogs of all sizes and would likely do best with a canine companion. He has become especially attached to his foster’s much larger, disabled dog, often curling up beside her and using her as a pillow. He is also doing well with cats, although he may initially think a cat who runs is a fun chase game. He has learned to respect the cats in his foster home and can now relax around them. Hunter has not met children, but his foster believes he would do best with older children who understand canine boundaries and cues. He came from a hoarding situation with approximately 80 other dogs, so he is still learning to trust people and feel safe in his surroundings. Overall, h e’s a happy, loyal, goofy, energetic jellybean that loves his people once they gain his trust, which doesn’t take too long especially when other dogs are around! Hunter is making progress with house training. He uses a doggy door and reliably pees and poops outside when taken out, although he is still having some marking issues. He recently had a neuter, so his foster is hopeful that will decrease, and he is currently wearing a belly band. He is also learning to love his crate. He may whine or bark initially but settles down after a little while, and his foster feeds him his meals in the crate to help him understand that it is a safe place. Hunter is a sensitive little guy who needs people willing to respect his boundaries and let him build trust at his own pace. He does not like being reached over, picked up, or physically forced and may nip or bite when frightened or restrained. His foster has had success by staying calm, being patient, and allowing him to approach rather than forcing interaction. He is food motivated and responds well to praise and affection when he’s ready for it. With patience, consistency, and people who listen to his cues, Hunter is showing what a sweet and affectionate companion he can be. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. Chris #1 | 5-year-old Chihuahua mix | Your tiny, sweet shadow Chris is a tiny 5.5-pound Chihuahua mix with a huge personality and an even bigger love for his people. He is a sweet, affectionate little guy who loves being held, snuggled, and covered up like the tiny king he believes he is. He can be nervous and easily startled, especially around new people, but once he has a few minutes to warm up, his sweet personality comes shining through. Chris is still working on leash skills and can bark at people, dogs, and things like wheeled objects that catch him off guard. He is improving with practice and enjoys short walks, but he would benefit from a patient person who can continue helping him build confidence. He does well with the dogs in his foster home, including both larger and smaller dogs, although he can be vocal when meeting dogs on leash. He absolutely cannot live with cats, as he will chase them and try to attack them. Chris is still figuring out his potty routine, especially since he was sick when he first arrived. He is doing much better now that he feels better and seems to do well when given regular potty breaks. He may need a nighttime potty break and currently wears a belly band to help prevent marking or accidents. Like any dog adjusting to a new environment, accidents can happen while he settles into a new routine. Chris's biggest challenge is being left alone. He does eventually settle when crated, but he can bark, whine, cry, and thrash around when first left. For this reason, he would do best with someone who is home much of the time or can take him along for the day. He is a low-to-medium energy guy who enjoys short walks but is happiest snuggled up with his person. He loves treats, squeaky toys, bones, car rides, and plenty of affection. Chris would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a tiny sidekick who wants to be part of everything. He could be an only dog with plenty of human companionship or potentially enjoy having a confident, playful dog friend. He needs a cat-free home and would likely do best with older, calm children who understand that he can be easily startled. Franky J | 4 years old, Chihuahua mix | Tiny tennis balls, big personality Franky J is an 18-pound Chihuahua mix with a big personality packed into a little body. He is house trained, sweet, playful, cuddly, and easygoing once he settles in. Franky loves going for walks, riding in the car, snuggling under the covers, and showing off his belly for a good rub. But above all else, Franky LOVES tiny tennis balls. They are his absolute favorite thing, and he would happily spend time chasing them around a yard. Franky is reliably house trained in his foster home, although, as with any dog adjusting to a new environment and routine, accidents can happen during the transition. Franky does well with other dogs and would prefer having a canine companion or two in his forever home. He can occasionally get a little snippy when other dogs are worked up, such as when someone is walking by the house or a UPS truck comes down the street, but overall he has positive interactions with his dog friends. He would do best in a home where he has another dog to keep him company and isn't left alone for long stretches. Franky is a bit reactive on leash, primarily when another dog is barking at him. He may bark back or growl, but once he passes the other dog, he settles right back down. His foster family is working with him on this, and he will need patient adopters who are willing to continue helping him build good leash skills. Franky should not live with cats. He has chased and cornered his foster family's cat on several occasions. He has not been around children, but his foster family believes he could potentially do well with older children who understand how to respectfully interact with dogs. That said, a child-free home may be the best fit for him. Franky is very much a mama's boy and seems to feel most comfortable with women. He has been more wary of some adult men, particularly larger men with beards, although he has become friends with his foster dad over time. His adopters should be patient and allow him to build trust at his own pace. Franky was previously adopted and returned after two years. His foster family believes that being an only dog in an apartment simply wasn't the right environment for him, as he has done very well in his current foster home with other dogs, a fenced yard, and regular companionship. Franky would thrive with patient, confident adopters who can give him structure, regular walks, plenty of companionship, and, ideally, a yard where he can chase his beloved tiny tennis balls. In return, you'll get a sweet, funny little guy who loves his people, loves his dog friends, and is always ready for a belly rub or a game of fetch.
