Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Ivy #3 finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails).   Ivy #3 | 5-year-old Chihuahua mix | Gentle belly-rub queen Ivy is a sweet, shy five-year-old Chihuahua mix who is looking for a calm, loving home where she can settle in at her own pace. Weighing 22 pounds, this low-to-medium energy girl enjoys short neighborhood walks and then happily relaxes on the couch as your movie buddy. She walks nicely on leash and, while new sights and sounds can initially startle her, she adjusts well with time and reassurance and does not pull, bark excessively, or act out on walks. Ivy is almost fully house trained and does great when she can signal by standing at the door to go outside. She has been left home alone for 6–8 hours and generally does okay after some initial whining, though she can be sensitive to noises outside and may bark briefly. She is not crate trained and has not been using a kennel, as her foster wanted her to feel comfortable in her environment. This gentle girl prefers a quieter lifestyle and does best with calm, smaller dogs, as larger or very energetic dogs can make her nervous. She has not yet been tested with cats or children and seems to prefer female humans. Ivy is food-motivated, knows the command “come,” and responds well to structure and routine. She loves chewing on bones, going for walks, and is especially fond of chicken, cheese, and peanut butter bacon treats. One of her cutest traits is happily rolling over to show her belly for rubs, and when she plays, she is extremely gentle. Ivy would thrive in a peaceful, consistent home with someone who understands that she needs a little time to warm up but will reward patience with loyalty, affection, and quiet companionship.   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. She’s sweet, affectionate, and loves to cuddle once she’s comfortable. She can be a little nervous with new people at first but warms up quickly with patience, pets, and treats. She’s almost fully house trained and very close, though a few accidents can still happen, especially in a new environment. Addie signals that she needs to go out by standing at the door and even bumping her nose on the handle. On leash, she’s doing fairly well but is still working on pulling and her strong urge to chase squirrels and other small animals. Addie can be left alone for four to six hours and generally settles after some initial whining. Crate training is still a work in progress—she’ll choose to rest in her crate but gets upset when the door is closed, though she does calm down after about ten minutes. She does well when left loose in the house. She hasn’t met other dogs up close yet but shows playful interest, and the shelter reports she does well with dogs. Due to her prey drive, a home without cats is likely best. She knows basic commands like sit, down, leave it, and drop it, but consistency is key—she’s smart and a bit stubborn. Addie has medium-to-high energy and loves fetch, toys, chewies, and longer walks, but she can also relax and nap during the day. Story
Hi, I'm Cordelia! I'm a senior lady who has sadly had to come back to the shelter in hopes of finding my last forever home. I was adopted a few years ago and loved dearly but sadly my owner had to go to a nursing home and so I'm back here. I'm a sweet girl but I do have diabetes and a hard time seeing/hearing. Can you give a loving senior girl like me my last home? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop   ##1492386##

Story
Bella is an approx 2 y/o 10# Chiweenie who was found as a stray in a small rural TX town. No one came in to claim her and she was very frightened at the shelter. She's now in a foster home in CO and is coming out of her shell. She loves to be near her person/people, sit on your lap, and sleep under the covers in the big bed. Bella now loves to play with other dogs but can get snarky if she doesn’t get to be the boss. Bella has a difficult time sharing so we are looking to place her in a home where she is the only dog or with a laid back dog who doesn’t care about her bossiness. Bella needs a secure 6 ft fenced yard as she will be a flight risk for awhile and humans who can take her out frequently. She is potty trained and crate trained. She enjoys walks and is good on the leash but will bark at people, other dogs and unfamiliar things. She had made a lot of progress with her fear barking on walks and will need her new owner to continue with her reward based training. She'd do best with someone (she prefers women over men) home during the day and no small children. She hasn't been overly barky indoors. She was curious about cats but we're not sure how should be be living with them. If interested in meeting Bella, complete our meet and greet application at https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms as the first step. We require the application, home and reference check, and meet with everyone in the home including pets. Bella is spayed, utd on vaccs, chipped, and HW-. Her adoption fee is $375 and we are not doing any out of state adoptions.November 2, 2024, 3:49 pm

Story
Coco and Jerry arrive in Colorado Saturday 2/7/2026 and needs a committed foster home or adopter to welcome them! This adorable bonded pair of six- to seven pound Applehead Chihuahuas, six year old Coco and his sister five year old Jerry, have the same Mum, different Dad's. Their previous owner sadly had to surrender them to rescue when moving due to finances. Luckily, these two have each other to navigate the changes! They are great together and love people- especially kids! Have a kid that wants a pet to dress up? These are your dogs! They LOVE to wear clothes and will wait to be dressed. They love to cuddle under blankets too. The siblings are very codependent- they don't suffer from separation anxiety, but will follow each other around, They will tolerate other dogs and will get used to them, but aren really into toys or playing. What they are into is food, and dressing up- these are foodie divas. The divas are currently living in a foster home in San Antonio, Texas, awaiting an adopter or open foster home in Colorado to bring them up and into their home. ***The divas are being posted on behalf of our partner rescue in Texas- the process and adoption will go through them. The adoption fee does not include the transport fee (usually $125-200/per dog).*** Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2649021##

Story
I came into RezDawg with a big group of sibling pups, and although we’re now all in different foster homes, I’ve adjusted beautifully. It took me about a week to settle in, but now I’m thriving and so happy! I’m one of the best snugglers you’ll ever meet—my favorite place in the world is curled up next to my human, showering them with kisses. I even like to gently rest my paw on your hand just to remind you how much I love you. I get along with everyone: big dogs, little dogs, cats, and kids! I know how to walk politely on a leash and love to go on walks, big or small. I am fully house-trained and appreciate having a yard where I can take care of my business. I tend to be a little shy but warm up quicky when I bond with the humans I spend time with. I can’t wait to find my forever family—one I can love with my whole heart! ##2585800##
