5.29.2026 Dr. Davis: Good morning. I just got done looking at Duke, and I agree, he does have a prolapsed gland of the third eyelid (cherry eye) in his right eye. Besides having nuclear sclerosis (age related change), the rest of his eyes look good! No further evidence of inflammation, redness, or irritation. We could try doing topical steroid eye drops to see if this gets the size down enough for the prolapsed gland to go back in place. I have had limited success with this method, but it is worth trying. Sadly for most of these cases, only way to permanently fix this is with surgery, but with his heart disease, I do not think he is a good anesthetic candidate. As long as he is not bothering his eye, it should not hurt him or cause further issues, so we can also just monitor too! For the eye drops, I am going to put him on NeoPolyDex eye drops (doing the steroid/antibiotic combination since he had green discharge a couple days ago), and do 1-2 drops in his RIGHT eye 3-4x per a day for 7 days.
