🚨 URGENT: Heath Needs a Hero Before It’s Too Late 🚨 At just 7 months old, Heath should be discovering the world, chasing toys, and curling up in the arms of a family who loves him—not facing the unthinkable in a shelter kennel. This charming young pup is full of personality. His adorable perky ears seem to have a mind of their own, and his bright, expressive face is impossible to forget. Friendly, curious, and dog friendly, Heath has all the makings of an incredible lifelong companion. He’s still just a baby with his whole life ahead of him. Every tail wag, every hopeful glance through the kennel door is a reminder that all he’s waiting for is someone to give him a chance. Please don’t let his story end before it truly begins. Heath deserves birthday celebrations, belly rubs, squeaky toys, and a family to call his own—not a shelter deadline. PLEASE HELP TEXT KAREN 4136298152

Sweet Pea is about 8 months old and is a very sweet little girl looking for her forever home. The couple that brought her in said they found her by the hotel where they were staying. She was so very sweet they didn't want anything to happen to her, so they turned her in. She loves her little bed. She is better with older kids rather than smaller ones. She has been fully vetted and is up to date on all shots, spayed and microchipped. She is all set to go home to her new family. Story
Meet Susye — A Young Girl Ready for a Home of Her Own Sometimes the best dogs have the hardest beginnings. Susye’s second chance began when a Nashville Fire Department EMT realized that the homeless woman caring for her would not be leaving the hospital. He could not bear the thought of this young dog being left with nowhere to go, so he brought Susye home and made sure she was safe. For the past three months, Susye has been living with her firefighter foster dad and his four dogs. She has been a happy, peaceful addition to the family and has settled into home life beautifully. She is crate trained when needed, loves using the dog door, and enjoys spending time in the fenced backyard. Now fully vetted and spayed, Susye is turning 8 months old this month and is ready for a forever home with the stability she deserves. She weighs 43 pounds. We believe Susye may be a Feist, Rat Terrier, or Jack Russell Terrier mix, possibly with some herding breed influence. She is bright, active, affectionate, and eager to be part of whatever is happening. Like many young herding and terrier mixes, she will do best with regular exercise, engagement, and continued training. Although Susye adores her foster dog siblings, they are all older. Her foster dad cannot help but think she would especially love a home with a younger, playful dog companion who can match her energy and enjoy growing up alongside her. Her firefighter foster dad also works 12-hour shifts, and caring for five dogs has become more than he can reasonably maintain long-term. Susye is loved and safe, but this was always meant to be her stepping stone—not her final destination. She would thrive with a family that can give her companionship, consistency, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to use her smart young mind. A securely fenced yard would be wonderful, and another playful dog would be a big bonus. Susye has already experienced more uncertainty than any puppy should. Now she is ready for the part of her story where she belongs somewhere for good. ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.September 2, 2026, 6:15 pm

Make A Difference in your Community - Adopt a Shelter Dog! Would you like to foster a Shelter Survivor? For more information, visit us at www.sheltersurvivors.com ***WE ARE HAVING TROUBLE RECEIVING SOME APPLICATIONS. PLEASE EMAIL US WHEN YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION WHILE WE WORK ON THIS ISSUE*** We apologize for the inconvenience. You may email us at sheltersurvivors@live.com This gorgeous little girl is Phoebe, and she is one very special little dog. She is a “mixed breed mystery”, possibly a hound/chihuahua/shiba inu/terrier mix. Phoebe was found as a stray running along the Coney Island Boardwalk. With all the noise, people, and excitement around her, she was understandably terrified. When she arrived at the shelter, she was very reluctant to engage with the staff and spent much of her time scared and shut down. But the shelter staff could see that behind those frightened eyes was a sweet, affectionate little dog who just needed someone to give her a chance. And boy, were they right! Phoebe has made tremendous progress since arriving in her foster home. For the first two days, she wouldn't leave her crate and wanted absolutely nothing to do with being touched or petted. Within about 72 hours, however, she decided that being loved was actually pretty great, and she hasn't looked back! Today, Phoebe is a total cuddlebug. She jumps into her foster mom's lap, snuggles up next to her when she sleeps, and happily gives kisses. She is also becoming increasingly comfortable with new people coming into the home. She may bark when someone first arrives, but give her a few seconds and she'll decide they're okay. Once she feels safe, she is affectionate and loving. One of the biggest factors in Phoebe's transformation has been the other dogs in her foster home. They have essentially shown her the ropes and helped her learn that the world isn't such a scary place. Phoebe adores other dogs and has a wonderful, playful personality. In fact, she seems to have a special talent for convincing even the most uninterested dog that playing with her is a good idea! She is currently living with a huge Mastiff, a Husky/Shepherd mix, and a smaller Pomeranian mix about her size—and she loves them all. Because other dogs have played such an important role in helping Phoebe gain confidence, we feel very strongly that Phoebe needs to be adopted into a home with another friendly, playful dog. A canine companion isn't just something she would enjoy; we believe it will be an important part of her continued success. Phoebe was apparently housetrained to use wee-wee pads in her previous home. She is now learning that the preferred bathroom is outside, and she's making excellent progress, however, she is not 100% housetrained yet. She is a quick learner and has made remarkable progress, but her new family should expect some accidents, particularly during the adjustment period. A fenced-in yard would be ideal for Phoebe so she can be taken outside frequently while she continues working on her housetraining. Her adopters will need to be patient and prepared to continue the training in their home. Phoebe is crated when left alone and does well for up to five hours. Phoebe would do best with people who have some flexibility and can spend plenty of time with her. Phoebe LOVES being outside, and she has developed a rather serious hobby: Chasing moths and butterflies. She will spot one and immediately launch herself into the air in an attempt to catch it. She can jump surprisingly high, and she is absolutely convinced that one day she WILL catch one. She has plenty of puppy energy, but she is not hyper. She loves to play, explore, and have fun, but she is also perfectly happy to settle down and cuddle with her person. Phoebe can still get nervous in unfamiliar situations, and she needs people who will give her time to feel safe rather than expecting her to immediately be confident. But even when she is nervous, she has never snapped or growled when being handled. Phoebe is approximately 1.5 years old and 29 pounds, a pretty much perfect size! She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She needs a family willing to see past her challenges, continue the work her foster family has started, and give her the security and canine companionship she needs to become the happy, confident little girl we know she can be. To adopt Phoebe, please complete our online dog application by going to sheltersurvivors.com Click on the home page, look for "Application" at the top of the home page, and complete the application. Hit the submit button once you have completed the application in its entirety. This will expedite the adoption process. Adoption Fee: $400.00
