Lucy was surrendered to NorthStar when her owner became ill and could no longer care for her dogs. Although she is 8 years old, Lucy is in good health, energetic and house-trained. She is a good listener who loves long walks and car rides. She is currently up to date on her shots, but is due for several vaccines in May - we'll ensure she receives those. Lucy has lived with another dog (Lily Nason, also available for adoption) and is currently in temporary foster with a Lab and Golden Retriever. On walks she may bark at other dogs out of curiosity - she's not aggressive, just loud. Lucy has a notable prey drive and will try to chase squirrels, birds, and deer. However, she was recently cat-tested while staying with a cat owner for two weeks, and she did not bother the resident cat. Lucy is crate trained and enjoys spending time in her individual crate even when given free roam of the house. Lucy is more submissive than her housemates. Overall, she is a very sweet senior girl just looking for a new place to hang her leash! Meet Edna Edna is a 12-year-old, 6-pound Texas native who has been through some things—and would like it noted that she is over it. Formerly homeless, now rescued, she’s entered her well-deserved “tiny, grumpy diva” era. After seeing the vet, the official diagnosis is: hot mess. Not just any hot mess—a fixable hot mess, but Edna would prefer you not dwell on that. She’s focusing on her narrative. She’s diabetic and requires daily insulin injections (which she considers deeply inconvenient and possibly a personal attack). She doesn’t see very well, so if you startle her, that’s on you. Boundaries matter. She has been spayed and a few mammary masses removed - all benign so that is some good news. Edna can be a little spicy—but honestly, she’s earned it. She will let you and her dog friends know verbally when she needs some space. Yet she still demands to be held like the royalty she clearly is. Her hobbies include judging you silently, burrowing under blankets like a dramatic little burrito, and accepting affection, until you stick her with a needle. She will hate you for a few seconds - then buries her head in your neck while you apologize over and over again. Despite her sass, Edna is a champion snuggler and wants nothing more than a warm lap and a human who understands that love sometimes comes with a side of attitude. Two Chihuahua-mix siblings, Avah and Lolo, were surrendered to a shelter in TX, then rescued by a foster for NorthStar. Both girls are now adjusting to their new surroundings and getting ready to make the trip to NJ to find a new home. Avah is the white & black Chi, is 7 years old and weighs 9 pounds. Lolo is the brown & white Chi who is 10 years old and weighs only 7 pounds. Both girls are friendly and looking for love! Avah even rolled over for tummy rubs in the car on the way home from the shelter. As we find out more about each girl, we will update their bios.
