Meet Susye — A Young Girl Ready for a Home of Her Own Sometimes the best dogs have the hardest beginnings. Susye’s second chance began when a Nashville Fire Department EMT realized that the homeless woman caring for her would not be leaving the hospital. He could not bear the thought of this young dog being left with nowhere to go, so he brought Susye home and made sure she was safe. For the past three months, Susye has been living with her firefighter foster dad and his four dogs. She has been a happy, peaceful addition to the family and has settled into home life beautifully. She is crate trained when needed, loves using the dog door, and enjoys spending time in the fenced backyard. Now fully vetted and spayed, Susye is turning 8 months old this month and is ready for a forever home with the stability she deserves. She weighs 43 pounds. We believe Susye may be a Feist, Rat Terrier, or Jack Russell Terrier mix, possibly with some herding breed influence. She is bright, active, affectionate, and eager to be part of whatever is happening. Like many young herding and terrier mixes, she will do best with regular exercise, engagement, and continued training. Although Susye adores her foster dog siblings, they are all older. Her foster dad cannot help but think she would especially love a home with a younger, playful dog companion who can match her energy and enjoy growing up alongside her. Her firefighter foster dad also works 12-hour shifts, and caring for five dogs has become more than he can reasonably maintain long-term. Susye is loved and safe, but this was always meant to be her stepping stone—not her final destination. She would thrive with a family that can give her companionship, consistency, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to use her smart young mind. A securely fenced yard would be wonderful, and another playful dog would be a big bonus. Susye has already experienced more uncertainty than any puppy should. Cutie Pie is a sweet, loving young girl who absolutely loves being close to her people. She can be a little shy at first, but once she gets to know you, her affectionate personality really comes out. She loves attention, being petted, and getting head rubs. One of her favorite places is curled up beside you on the couch while you watch TV, and she’s always happy to cuddle up with you in bed. Cutie Pie does great with other dogs of all sizes and rides well in the car. She’s a quiet girl who rarely barks and sleeps well through the night. She’s currently working on house training and is making progress. With a consistent routine, she should continue to do great. Ivy came from the shelter where she had arrived very emaciated and scared. She is a healthy, happy girl now and ready to find a home. She is great with people but can be a bit selective with dogs. No cats!

I wanted to drop a quick note to let you know that earlier this week, I am now around 4 to 5 months old, was neutered, weighed in at about 9 pounds, got my final DAPP booster and had the hanging dew claws removed off my back feet. I have been working hard on my manners, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to play with the other dogs! I am READY TO GO TODAY!!" 8-8-26: "Hello, MR PEABODY here, and I am ready to come live with you!!! I am the cutest, sweetest, most lovingest baby boy you will find, and I can be all yours! I ended up with this rescue after a local overcrowded county shelter put out an emergency plea, and my Mom saw me there, took me in her arms, and I just melted into hers! She said no way was I staying there! I am about 7 pounds right now, have my first puppy vaccines and am micro chipped. My crate and house manners are a current work in progress, but Mom was happy that my crate only had a tiny wet area and no poop in the morning!! I think I am doing pretty good for a little baby!! I am doing great with the other dogs in my foster home, but there are no cats or children here, so I can't say how I would be with them in my life."
