Looking for a grown-up best friend who's just as happy exploring the trails as he is snoozing on the couch? Meet Fermi! With his adorable salt-and-pepper face, floppy ears that pop right up when he's excited, and soft brindle coat, Fermi is one handsome guy. At about 26 pounds, he's the perfect medium-sized companion—easy to take along on adventures without being too big or too small.
Fermi is a distinguished gentleman who already knows how to be a great housemate. He loves his crate and happily heads inside with a simple "crate" cue, where he'll quietly curl up for a nap both during the day and overnight. He's clean in his crate, appears to be fully house trained on a regular schedule, and walks beautifully on a leash, making him an easy companion whether you're heading around the neighborhood or out for a weekend adventure.
An active home would be right up Fermi's alley. He loves hiking, exploring new places, and keeping an eye out for squirrels—his favorite wildlife! A large, securely fenced yard where he can stretch his legs would be a bonus, but regular walks and outdoor adventures will also keep this curious boy happy. He's excellent in the car too, making him the perfect co-pilot for errands, road trips, or your next hiking destination.
While Fermi enjoys staying busy, he also knows how to relax. He's a big fan of cozy beds, afternoon naps, and snuggling up on the couch for some well-earned lap time after a day of exploring. He adores people and is always happy to stop for pets and attention. He's done well meeting young neighborhood children and tends to win over everyone he encounters with his sweet personality. Fermi also loves his toys and is perfectly content entertaining himself. Because he plays enthusiastically, sturdy toys are the way to go. He can be protective of his toys, so giving him his own space to enjoy them helps him feel comfortable.
Around other dogs, Fermi is happy to peacefully share space but is generally independent and doesn't need a canine playmate to keep him entertained. He's simply looking for a family that will appreciate his adventurous spirit, spoil him with treats and comfy beds, and include him in life's everyday adventures. If you're searching for a loyal companion who's past the puppy chaos but still has plenty of energy for fun, Fermi may just be your perfect match.
*Sleepover feedback: " He’s a sweet, easygoing boy who just wants to be near his people with a toy in reach. He’d do great in an active home or a low key one, he really can go either way.
*Additional feedback: " Fermi is a really happy guy. He likes to be with you and if you get up to change places, he will likely go with you. He wasn’t always sitting with me, sometimes I’d be on the couch and he would be on the floor. We had some thunderstorms and he tolerated those well, but wanted to be near me. I gave him some wet food mixed with dry and he ate well. He likes the mini milk bones. He seems smart and very trainable. He is a little love! I never left him alone. He is very quiet in the crate except for the first few seconds.
*We waited outside the dance studio and he would let other teenage kids pet him when they left the dance studio. * Most of the time he wanted to stay with us on the couch or stand watch while we did a task around the apartment. I don’t think his energy was overwhelming and I think he could do well with a more active family or with a more laid back one. He did great in our smaller space, I think he would do well in any size home including an apartment.
