Story
Meet Juju, a five-pound Chihuahua who is four years old, fully housetrained, and is absolutely convinced the sun rises and sets at his command.Juju enjoys the company of other small dogs, but he's firmly opposed to large dogs, in theory and in practice. He was owner-surrendered for the usual reasons (aka, "life happens") although Juju wants the record to reflect that he wasn't consulted. Now let’s address something important, which is that Juju is small, but he is not “small” in the way people mean when they try to carry a dog in a handbag like a decorative croissant. Juju is a full, sentient being with strong opinions, a desire to run, play, explore, and possibly reorganize your household according to a system only he understands. He can be spicy, which is to say he'll absolutely inform you when he's unhappy, but he's also extremely generous with affection and hands out kisses like a tiny, overenthusiastic ambassador.Because he's both extremely fast and extremely tiny, which is a thrilling but somewhat stressful combination of assertive and delicate, Juju should not go to a home with young children. Also, and this is not an exaggeration, he stands about ankle-high and can jump to shoulder height, which suggests that either he has discovered a loophole in physics or physics has simply given up.Last week, we had Juju in the food prep area while preparing meals for the dogs, which turned into the most intense workout I've had all year, because every time I rounded the counter to fill a bowl, Juju was already there, having somehow anticipated my route like a furry chess grandmaster, and when I tried to change direction, he adjusted instantly and beat me to the spot again, occasionally attempting to scale my leg for what I assume were strategic reasons. This continued for approximately one hour. I was exhausted; Juju was barely warmed up.If you're looking for a dog who'll sit quietly and function as a decorative object, Juju's not your guy.If, however, you are looking for a tiny, hilarious, intense, affectionate creature who will keep you moving and fully engaged with life, Juju is ready for action.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA, and is open daily from 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays.Interested?
