Story
They are so tiny I put on my reading glasses before I go visit them. You don’t meet these three Chihuahuas so much as you notice them, the way you notice a dandelion pushing through concrete. Small, yes. Insignificant? Not a chance.Honey is the young mom of the group, barely two years old and somehow already the undisputed queen of snuggles and soft kisses. She’s the kind of dog who nestles into that nook where your shoulder meets your neck like she’s claiming ancestral land. You don’t argue with her. You just accept your fate and enjoy it.Milk is three, a very young dad who has been trying his absolute best to shepherd his tiny family through a very scary world. He came in anxious, vigilant, trying to hold himself together on four quivering legs. But once he figures out you’re safe, the transformation is remarkable. The sweet, spirited little guy appears, almost relieved to set his invisible backpack of responsibilities down for a minute. And then there’s Dakota, their year-old son, who has inherited both their charm and their talent for being overwhelmed by things larger than a raisin. Dakota is scared right now. Also: Dakota is wonderful. The moment he realizes you’re the safe harbor he’s been scanning for, that tail starts up like a wind-up toy finding its rhythm. Here’s the important part: they are not bonded. They don’t need to stay together. Each one is ready for a home of their own, a place where their tiny hearts can stop bracing for impact and start blooming instead. These three are a testament to what survival looks like in miniature form. They’ve come through the unsure parts of life with their courage intact, their sweetness unspoiled, and their capacity for love very much alive. Come meet them, and you’ll see exactly what I mean.Visiting hours are daily, including weekends & holidays, between 9am and noon. Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Her world is dark. She cannot see. And yet she lights up our world brighter than a star.Meet Firefly. The most resilient, 11-year-old Chihuahua you could ever hope to meet. She has likely been blind for awhile, according to our vet, because she navigates life very well. When she hears your voice, her nearly hairless tail starts wagging up a storm. Her legs are hairless as well, but good nutrition is already correcting that for her. And boy does she have an appetite.Firefly was found walking down the middle of a road. She was taken in by a Good Samaritan and was found to have a microchip. It was discovered that her owner died two years ago and the owner's husband gave Firefly to someone else. How she came to be walking down the road in horrible shape, we will never quite understand. We do know that Firefly was loved and well cared for the first 9 years of her life, And now we need to make her last years just as good.Firefly loves a good bed, a gentle touch, a good meal, and the feel of grass under her paws. She adores gentle dogs and humans who let her play and explore like the brave little girl she is, but who always welcome her back with gentle hands and warm snuggles. She is gaining confidence each day. We are all drawn to her light and love and we know you will be as well.Firefly is IN FOSTER.
