Story
Cheyenne, consider yourselves warned, your heart doesn’t stand a chance with this guy around! Dio strutted through our doors and immediately won us over with his charming grin and goofy personality. He’s a social butterfly with other dogs and loves a good play session. He does have a talent for finding trouble, so we recommend keeping an eye on him and not leaving him outdoors unsupervised. Come meet Dio and see for yourself, falling for him is practically guaranteed!

Story
Meet Kendall & Kylie — Two Sweethearts on the Road to Recovery. Kendall and Kylie arrived at Polk County Humane Society after wandering together, clearly bonded and looking for safety. Unfortunately, both girls tested positive for heartworms—a serious but treatable condition. Thanks to our generous donors and veterinary partners, PCHS covers the full cost of their heartworm treatment. But we need adopters or fosters who can commit to the care these girls need during recovery. What Heartworm Treatment Involves: Oral medications administered at home. Veterinary visits for a series of injections. Strict activity restriction for several weeks, including crate rest or confinement to small areas indoors, leash-only potty breaks and outdoor time and no running, jumping, or rough play. This quiet recovery period is essential to ensure the heartworms are safely eliminated without complications. Are you the one who can help one or both of these girls transition from survivors to thrivers? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2470141##

Story
Meet DELTA, the Sweetest Sidekick Ever! This lovable goof is the ultimate cuddle buddy — he’ll follow you everywhere (unless he’s busy hunting grasshoppers or soaking up the sun). He knows “sit,” is learning not to jump when excited, and is fully crate-trained. He lives for walks, toy destruction, stealing dog beds for forced snuggles, and protecting the yard from squirrels. Personal space? Never heard of it. He’s playful, affectionate, and would thrive in an active home or with another dog friend. If you’re looking for unconditional love and a built-in adventure buddy, this sweet boy is ready to be yours!

Story
Hi! I’m Sully, a shy but sweet guy looking for a quiet, patient home where I can feel safe and loved. I do best in homes without kids under 12, as I can be nervous in new places and tend to knock over little ones.Once I warm up, I’m affectionate, energetic, and love cuddles. I enjoy hanging out with calm dogs and can coexist happily with them, though I prefer relaxed companionship over high-energy play. Because I’m selective about my friends, I’d love a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs at the shelter to make sure we’re a good match. I’m also a smart boy! I’ve done some training like “stay,” “leave it,” “spin,” and “go ahead”, and I love treat hunts and enrichment walks, both inside and outside. I can be a little wary of new noises (like clickers), but with patience and gentle encouragement, I thrive and enjoy exploring.I may take a little time to settle into a new home, but once I do, I’m a loyal, loving companion who’s ready to share cuddles, adventures, and lots of love. I can’t wait to meet you and all my new family members at the shelter!
