Story
I rescued Rocky from a military family 1 year ago. I have trained him, he does great on walks, although he is reactive to prey animals, he generally behaves and listens well. He has a lot of energy but sleeps majority of the day. Since I have had him, we have been on many adventures, he loves playing in water, and would make an excellent hunting dog. He is fantastic around my children, I have an autistic 4 year old, a 3 year old and now an infant. He is a little too rowdy for the infant, and I am mainly seeking to rehome him due to my partner asking me to for a while now. It is hard for me to part with him but I simply cannot give him the attention he deserves!

Story
Meet Kendall & Kylie — Two Sweethearts on the Road to Recovery. Kendall and Kylie arrived at Polk County Humane Society after wandering together, clearly bonded and looking for safety. Unfortunately, both girls tested positive for heartworms—a serious but treatable condition. Thanks to our generous donors and veterinary partners, PCHS covers the full cost of their heartworm treatment. But we need adopters or fosters who can commit to the care these girls need during recovery. What Heartworm Treatment Involves: Oral medications administered at home. Veterinary visits for a series of injections. Strict activity restriction for several weeks, including crate rest or confinement to small areas indoors, leash-only potty breaks and outdoor time and no running, jumping, or rough play. This quiet recovery period is essential to ensure the heartworms are safely eliminated without complications. Are you the one who can help one or both of these girls transition from survivors to thrivers? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2470141##

Story
Luna, Lab/Heeler, 10 yrs. 85 lbs. (she is on a diet as she is entirely too heavy) Luna’s owners are moving into an independent living facility and cannot take her with them. She’s friendly with everyone including other dogs. She’s bored and sleeps a lot during the day so she isn’t getting the exercise that she needs. Overall, she is in good health. Recently in the last month we’ve had to put her on incontinent medicine, and she seems to be doing well with that. She has also been on the Farmers Dog food for the past three months, in order for her to lose weight, and is doing well with that. She has a lot of life to give yet. We are looking for a home with someone home most of the time and another older dog to hang out with. Courtesy listing. Call Cindy 970-353-1385

Story
Hi! I`m Barrett and I`m a fun guy who is looking for an active home without young kids. I am a rambunctious player who may do best living in a single dog home, I`d love an in shelter meet and greet if there are other dogs in the home to make sure our play styles match. I have lived with cats but not all cats will appreciate my rowdy play. I am house trained, crate trained, love going on walks, playing with toys and I can`t wait to meet you!

Charlie, Lab/German Shorthaired Pointer, 2 yrs. 65 lbs. Charlie is a great dog that has found himself homeless. His owner is going to memory care and no one in the family will take him. He is good on a leash and on car rides. He seems to be good with other dogs so we are looking for a home with someone home most of the time or that has another dog for him to hang out with. Charlie is loyal and comes in queue. Courtesy listing. Call Cindy 970-353-1385
