Meet Cosmo This adorable guy has the spunk and spirit of a typical pup. His mom was unfortunately run over and he had to have a little help being bottle fed until able to eat on his own. You would not know it by looking at him or in his glowing personality. Cosmo is always up for a romp during playtime. He is also one of the sweetest snugglers. Cosmo has grown to adoption age in the same wonderful household and his foster mom would love to give you all the details on his daily life. Cosmo is well socialized and would do great in a home with or without dogs and/or with or without children. If you are looking for a dedicated family companion, you can’t go wrong with this cutie. Once adopted, Cosmo will transport with Rescue Vet Transport to his new forever family (additional $185). If you would like to give him a life time of belly rubs please follow the link below to our adoption application. Please note, our volunteer team works very hard and they are very responsive so please submit your application only when you are ready to welcome your new furry friend. https://forms.gle/APKvbgFJcaRvgKgk9

Story
Pupperoni IS a treat!! This gorgeous shiny and wavy black haired beauty has lots of energy and plenty of fancy moves, ready to go!! She is a very social girl that showed up at an apartment complex as a young pup and has been passed around the complex ever since. She grew into a large dog (and syill needs to fill out) with a lot of energy and finally somebody spoke up and asked Rescue to find her a more appropriate home than a small apartment. She pulls on a leash but knows how to listen and can walk well with just a little bit of training. She is good in a crate and currently live with cats! She loves everybody she meets and would make an excellent running partner or agility dog. She is very loving and very easy to take care of, love, loves her baths, and nails trimmed— she gets treated like it’s a spa day! Looking for an active lifestyle for this girl who could log many miles with you. She can learn to be off leash as the border collie in her leads her to run out and then circle back and check on you. Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! Through no fault of his own, this 2ish-year-old black beauty found himself in a scary place - a high-kill shelter in Louisiana. Being black in coloring, the color least adopted, Luigi's life was in danger. We will never know where this sweet boy spent the first years of his life. It is apparent that he was once someone’s pet, but his owner was not to be found. Luigi charms everyone he meets and will sit for a treat, shake hands/paws, and roll over for a belly rub. He has a great temperament and has never met a stranger. This young fellow has an energy level appropriate for a dog his age and will need an adopter who can provide him with adequate exercise, activities, and companionship. Luigi would do well with some training to help him become the very best version of himself. In return, Luigi will give you his unconditional love, 24/7, 365! One of our volunteers in Al shared, "He’s sooo gorgeous and has a happy spirit. He's not really keen on retrieving, but is getting the hang of it, as you can see in his video. Luigi loves to run and eventually settles after he runs around the yard, so a fenced yard in his new home would be wonderful for him. He’s in good health and has very white teeth that he likes to show off when he smiles! He totally loves affection." Luigi is good with other dogs, would enjoy playing with older children, but has no known history with cats. He has been brought up-to-date on vaccinations, is microchipped, neutered, and heartworm negative. Luigi has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention. If you have it in your heart to give a gorgeous guy a loving and forever home, please consider Luigi. He will be ready to travel north in early May to be adopted. Please contact Cheryl Kewley if you are approved to adopt through SGRR. He is the most loving guy you will ever meet, and the most wonderful thing about Luigi is his heart and spirit. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to learn more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. ADOPTION FEES - Effective of October 1, 2024 PUREBRED DOGS Purebred puppies, up to 6 months $1000 Purebred dogs, 6 months - 6 years $800 Purebred dogs, 7 - 9 years $650 Purebred dogs, 10 years and up $550 Young dogs with special needs $650 Senior dogs with special needs $500 Pairs of Purebred Puppies, up to 6 months $1600 Bonded pair - young purebred dogs $1400 Bonded pair - senior dogs 7 years & up $1000 MIXED BREED DOGS Up to 6 months $850 6 months - 6 years $750 7 - 9 years $650 10 years and up $550 Young dogs with special needs $650 Senior dogs with special needs $500 Bonded pair - young dogs $1000 Bonded pair - senior dogs 7 years & up $900 A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog. Story
Simba has been a part of our family since he was a puppy. He is 4 years old. Simba is a purebred Golden retriever with an English Cream mother and a Golden father. Simba is in perfect health, up to date with vaccines and has regular vet checkups. Simba is very intelligent, obeys many commands and is house broken. Simba loves walks and to play in the yard. Simba loves to be around people and is interested in them rather than other dogs. Simba has not had a lot of socialization with other dogs and has sometimes display some aggression with dogs until he gets to know them. Simba has had some food and resource guarding issues that we have learned to manage. Simba has also bitten few times while working thru these issues. To be clear, Simba doesn't lunge, or look to bite or attack. The only reason I am looking to re-home him, is because we now have very young grandchildren. Simba needs a person who understands his quirks, and can give him the time, attention and love he needs.
