Story
Doofy is a magnificent 2-1/2 year old male Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on March 9, 2025 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked him up on Tadpole Run Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Doofy was wearing a collar with a Wood County WV dog tag and a rabies vaccination tag, so we are hopeful that he will be reclaimed. Doofy has a shiny black short smooth coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a dusting of white on his chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Doofy appeared to have a friendly, outgoing personality when HSOV Kennel Tech Emma Dahlgren spent time with him in the lobby of our shelter for his quick photo session shortly after his arrival on March 9th. This big boy weighs 85 lbs and was fairly strong on a leash. Doofy would preferred to have enjoyed a walk/photo session outside since it was a nice sunny afternoon. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Doofy will be held for 14 days since he had dog tags which will enable us to locate his owner. We hope that his owner (or someone familiar with Doofy) will see his Facebook photos and know that he is safely in our shelter and would love to go home. Doofy is NOT good with other dogs. He is ok with cats except that he plays rough with them. Doofy was neutered on December 15, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. He weighed 84 lbs that day. UPDATE: Doofy went home with a foster family on March 19, 2026 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Unfortunately, Doofy was returned to HSOV by his foster family on March 21st 2026 because Doofy is NOT good with other dogs.

Story
Tundra is a cute male Labrador Retriever mix who was born in foster care on May 29th 2026 when his mother (Jasmine) gave birth to Tundra and his ten brothers/sisters. Thanks to a fantastic foster mother for offering Jasmine the hospitality of her home earlier that day so that Jasmine could raise her babies in a nice home environment instead of in a crowded shelter setting. This little sweetheart has a shiny black coat with a tiny patch of white on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable puppy face with brown eyes, white toes on his paws, a teeny tiny white stripe on the top of his slender muzzle, a tiny patch of white on his chin, and large floppy ears. Tundra had a quiet, rather shy, personality during his photo session. He followed in the paw steps of his brother Timber and also chose to stretch out for a relaxed pose atop a sofa pillow. Tundra was given first vaccines on July 19th 2026. He was given booster vaccines on August 2nd and August 16th 2026. Tundra weighed 16.9 lbs on August 2nd. Tundra and his siblings will be neutered/spayed before they can be officially adopted (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized), but they are available to foster or foster-to-adopt while they await those surgical procedures. Please complete/submit an HSOV foster/adoption application for approval if you would like to give one (or more) of these awesome puppies a loving home.

Story
Barney is a handsome 2-year old male Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on June 29th 2026 along with his companion (Betty). A Good Samaritan had found them on County House Lane in the Marietta Ohio area a few days earlier and kept them safe in his garage while he tried to locate their owner. Barney has a white coat with black spotting, a large patch of black on his derriere', rather long legs, a long tail, and a cute black-and-white face with black freckles on his muzzle and extra-large semi-erect ears. Barney may have some Great Dane ancestors in his family tree since he has some of their characteristic features. These pictures were taken on the afternoon of July 10th when HSOV Kennel Tech Liz Stingley accompanied Barney for his outdoor photo session. Barney loved attention from Liz (and also was intrigued with watching some of our HSOV mascot kitties who were nearby). Barney has a 'happy tail' which he wags constantly (even while he is in his kennel .. which has caused some bleeding on his tail when he wags it too close to the concrete walls of his indoor kennel). Barney weighs 50 lbs and is fairly energetic on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Barney (and Betty) were held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that their family would have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody has called or came looking for them as of July 12th 2026. We've learned that Barney is good with children and also with other dogs, but he is NOT good with cats. Barney does well riding in a car.
