Cole is a 1 year old, 60 pound flat-coat retriever mix (our best guess!) who was abandoned in a small-town church parking lot east of Dallas, where he wandered confused and hungry for several days. Once a foster spot finally opened, we discovered he had begun showing signs of an injury to his right rear foot. We don’t know exactly what happened, but his sweet boy ended up with a fractured toe, possible puncture wounds, and pad abrasions.   While he recovers from his physical injury, Cole is absolutely thriving in his foster home—soaking up the company of friendly resident dogs and all the love from his doting foster mom. He’s a happy, friendly, well-rounded guy with a wonderful temperament.   Cole is also heartworm-positive, but he will be starting treatment soon, and DSDA will cover all of his medical care.   This sweet, resilient boy is ready for his next chapter—one filled with safety, love, and a forever family of his own.   To meet Cole in person visit us at www.dsda.org/adopt and submit our online adoption application.  ADOPTION FEE Covers: Core vaccines plus Lepto and Flu, all boosters, microchip, dewormer until clear fecal test & spay or neuter when completed by a DSDA vet partner plus any necessary medical care.  All dogs are on flea, tick and heartworm prevention and you receive the following month's preventatives complementary with your adoption!  * Adoption Fees: Puppies (12 months and under) - $325  Dogs (over 12 months) - $275  Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs.  Must be home more than not. Vet checks are required! All resident pets in the applicant's home MUST be spayed or neutered, core vaccines up to date and dogs on heartworm prevention to be considered! No exceptions.  Must be 21 years or older with identification showing present address. Must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household. Must receive proof of pet deposit and lease allowing pets if renting. Willingness and capacity to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and responsible care for a pet. Must have a secure fence if in a house. All poisonous plants must be removed from the yard.  DSDA is located in Dallas and requires a home visit on every adoption so only adopt to Dallas and surrounding areas. ##2573318##

Story
Sophia was hit by a car over 10 days ago. Her pelvis broken in 2 places and her femur was broken. She was in so much pain that she tried biting our vet twice. We didn’t know her that well and the vet was concerned about how she would do in rehab, which he expected to be long and HARD. Our vet urged us to consider EU. We basically flipped a coin on a HW test to help us decide. She’s HW- so she got the surgery. After 10 days in hospital care, she did a complete 180 and became a staff favorite for her good nature and tail wags. Sophia is now at the rehab house our friend, triage nurse, and committed rehabber. And LOOK AT HER NOW! What the vet prepared us for was going to be rough - slings, bad attitude, peeing and pooping all over herself because she couldn’t get up. Sophia is giving us 100% with nothing but kisses, a great spirit, and willingness to do the work. Sophia is a small lab mix that will be ready for a forever home before you know it.
