Story
Meet Jake! Jake is a 7 year old male who recently had quite a change in his world, and his original family is hoping to find him a loving home. One of Jake's owners passed away not long ago, and the other member of the family works long hours and leaves Jake alone for long periods of time. They attempted to re-home him, but unfortunately after just 5 days, the family they trusted to take care of him ended up dumping him. They took him to a stranger's driveway, left him there with food, and took off in the middle of the night leaving him scared and confused. Luckily, he remained safe until he was brought to our shelter. His original family was devastated to find out that Jake was betrayed in this manner, and asked us to help them in finding him a new family who would never even consider something like this. Here is what his family said: DOB 7/4/2018 Jake is happy typical high energy 7 year old intact male Chocolate lab. He has been an outdoors dog all his life therefore he is not house trained. He walks nicely on a leash and knows basic sit and stay commands. He loves to dig and chew things. He is generally a quiet dog but will bark if a vehicle pulls up. Story
Meet Posie! Posie is approximately 10 months old and is thought to be a possible Labrador/Shepherd type mix. Posie was found as a stray, quite frightened in the road looking to hop in to someone's vehicle and confused as to why she didn't recognize anyone. We're not sure how she ended up there, but we promised her a future of safety and love, so we're looking for someone to give her exactly that. Her first couple of days here were quite overwhelming - Posie was so scared and unsure of her surroundings. That being said, we could tell she wanted human contact and it didn't take her long at all to let us get a collar on her, cuddle with her, and offer her yummy treats. She's incredibly affectionate and loves to give kisses! We think Posie would benefit from having a doggy playmate in the home who is kind and patient to her. We also think she'll do well with cats and kids as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. Posie might always have a bashful side, so her family should expect to be patient with her while she navigates all of the changes around her. Providing her with daily exercise will not only help to keep her healthy, but can help to boost her confidence and strengthen her bond with you. She will be a great cuddle buddy at the end of the day! Because she still young, we recommend utilizing a crate while Posie learns the new potty schedule. She's a smart girl, and should pick up new things quickly! If you're looking for a nice medium-sized pup to join your loving & patient family, Posie is a great fit! We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved: https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.html Posie is fully vaccinated and will be spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $200.
