Lark. 7yo altered Female Lab mix.Lark loves cuddles, long walks, and sunbathing. Her favorite treats are peanut butter or popcorn. She is very affectionate and would love to have the space to run off her zoomies and then have someone scratch her ears or rub her belly when she's tired from all the running. She does well with children ages 10 and up. She does not do well in a home with cats but could do well with other dogs if properly introduced. We have not had this formally confirmed by a veterinarian or through a hearing test, but based on his responses to sounds, we are highly suspicious that he has limited hearing. So, what does that mean for his future family? Being deaf or hard of hearing does not mean Luke can't be trained! In fact, dogs primarily learn through visual cues and body language, and many dogs learn hand signals just as easily as verbal commands. Luke can absolutely learn the rules of the house, basic obedience, routines, tricks, and so much more. The biggest consideration for his adopter will be communication and safety. Since Luke may not reliably hear his name, a verbal "no," or other sounds, his family will need to rely more heavily on hand signals, visual cues, touch, and consistent routines. A traditional verbal recall may also not be reliable, so his adopter will need to be especially mindful about keeping him safely contained or leashed in unsecured areas. With the right family, a deaf or hard-of-hearing puppy can live an incredibly happy, fulfilling life. Gretchen has spent all her life in the shelter and is now searching for a more comfortable place to live. She needs a family with patience and a good heart. Gretchen is very nervous and under socialized. Dont let that fool you though, shes the sweetest girl with the best temperament. She begs for attention and loves to be close to people, but takes time to warm up. She has come out of her shell a lot in her foster home, learning how comfy the couch is and how fun toys are to play with. She is very submissive and likes to have another dog with her to provide comfort and direction. Once she comes out of her shell she does have quite a bit of energy, so a dog that likes to play would be best. Shed also do well with an active family. Her foster family would recommend a fenced in yard preferably, just because she is nervous she can be a flight risk if something scares her, however its not required. She did have a couple accidents when she first arrived in her foster home, but has since been going to the door and doing all her business outside. She is kennel trained and is quiet while in her kennel only barking occasionally when she first goes in and then in the morning when she has to go out. There are no kids in her foster home, but we think she would do well with them after some time to warm up around them. Hello Everyone, please meet Mouse. This little, sweet guy with the cutest floppy ear has learned that coming to Wisconsin was the best trip he could have made. Mouse Loves to play with his bigger foster sister – in short bursts. If you come anywhere near the door he’s there ready to go. He’s most comfortable out in the yard and the sun. He has great recall and knows his name. He has discovered the joy of toys and likes having them displayed. The chewier the toy the better! He’s quite content to hang out close by you or at least within eye shot on the floor. Once on a leash, he does fabulous on walks and will not pull. He’s quite the gentleman with great manners – doesn't jump up on anyone and sits for treats. He will sit in front of you and boop you with his nose when he wants pets. In the short time in his foster home, he has learned to trust humans and seeks out their attention and wants to be where they are. He’s not a big snuggler or attention seeker, but once he accepts and wants your love he’ll let you know. Booty scratches are the best! When Mouse chooses you as his person, he will be most loyal. We don’t know his backstory, or what he’s all had to endure, but he is most deserving of all the love a family can give him. He’s still in the process of trusting so we feel that a calmer home setting or a furry friend to help with the transition may be best for Mouse.
