Story
Duke is a [age] yr old, 50 pound sweet and gentle hound who has really started to come out of his shell with us. He’s a quiet boy who loves his people, and his favorite things are tennis balls, stuffed toys, and getting attention. Duke is house-trained, vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He mostly ignores other dogs and would likely be happiest as the only pet in the home, where he can have his own space and enjoy being with his people. He can still be a little unsure in new situations, so he’ll need a patient home that will give him time to settle in and build confidence. Duke’s Story: Duke was found in the Everglades bravely protecting two small dogs who had become his little pack. He did his best to keep them safe in a dangerous place, and now it’s his turn to have someone look out for him. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was scared and uncertain, but little by little, he has opened up and shown us how sweet he can be. We think Duke has a lot of potential with the right person and a calm, loving home. Could you be the hero Duke has been waiting for? To meet him, please complete an application at AbandonedPetRescue.org. Abandoned Pet Rescue is a no-kill animal shelter in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Story
Rusty is literally the perfect dog. He loves everyone, human and canine, and is the friendliest boy you could wish to meet. He has a playful nature and a sense of fun that reminds you to feel joy in the little things - a ride in the car, a new squeaky ball or a silly hat. Rusty is happiness in canine form, the sunshine on a cloudy day who wants nothing g more than to be with you and join in with the family. His behavior and manners make you look good all the time. People will think you are a professional trainer when they see him out in public - he even did well on a tour at the Kennedy Space Center recently with his foster family (and yes, he wants to be a rocket scientist when he grows up). He is popular, smart and always cooperative. Rusty adores kids and thinks he is one. Ge is gentle and knows his size but he is also happy to take part in assorted childhood games and shenanigans. Rusty is the dog your kids will tell their own kids aboht one day. He really is that special.

Story
This is our sweet old soul Jessie. She was found as a pregnant stray. She came to us and had her babies who have all been adopted. When Jessie arrived, she had an eye that was very nasty. After seeing the eye specialist, we opted to have the eye removed to prevent more issues in the future. Her other eye has vision, but it is not very great. Once she learns her environment you’d never know she’s missing an eye/has bad vision in the other. She’s on two eye drops for life. Jessie’s age test came back as 8 years old. Jessie, like any hound breed, LOVES her food. She’s also become quite obsessed with walks and she’s super easy on the leash. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed and on flea/tick prevention. Puppies/dogs older than 3 months are on heartworm prevention. Story
Meet Viktor! A spirited three-year-old Coonhound/Foxhound mix currently in Youngsville, NC, whose essence is pure sunshine wrapped in a handsome tricolor coat and topped with wonderfully floppy ears. At about 55 pounds, Viktor is an adventure-loving boy who believes everyday life is better when shared with his favorite people! Walks, neighborhood explorations, backyard play sessions, and car rides all earn enthusiastic approval. He is medium-energy, leash trained, house trained, microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. He also knows “sit” and comes when called, making him a cheerful companion for families who enjoy staying active. Then there is Viktor’s true specialty: snuggling! This professional cuddle expert has very little interest in personal space and may happily transform into a floppy noodle while settling into your lap. Belly rubs are always welcome, comfy beds are highly prized, and lounging on the couch or sunbathing in the yard can turn an ordinary afternoon into Viktor’s version of paradise. Viktor enjoys stuffed animals, chew toys, and playing with canine friends! He is friendly with other dogs and would especially enjoy sharing his new loving home with a compatible girl dog, although he can also thrive as the only dog when given plenty of exercise, enrichment, companionship, and attention. A fenced yard would be wonderful for playtime, but an active family without one could also keep his curious hound mind happily engaged. Children are friends in Viktor’s book, too! He is comfortable and gentle with kids of all ages and friendly toward new people. Cats, however, are not compatible with Viktor because their movement can activate his hound prey drive, so he needs a cat-free home. Viktor can manage short periods alone and is more comfortable loose than crated and he can be a little nervous during storms. Patient reassurance and positive reinforcement can help him feel secure. With his contagious smile, joyful spirit, and enormous talent for turning himself into a lap dog, Viktor brings affection, laughter, and companionship wherever he goes! Could Viktor be the smiling, snuggling sidekick joining you on your next adventure? If you’re interested in providing Viktor with a loving home, please email meetme@joyfulpets.com for more information about adopting him! Please note that Viktor is currently in foster care through one of our trusted rescue partners and will remain with his foster family until the right match is found. Because rescue-partner pets are managed directly by their respective organizations, their adoption process, requirements, and fees may differ from Joyful Pets’ direct rehoming program. Our team will be happy to connect you with the rescue and help guide you through their process to ensure everything goes smoothly.
