Story
This is our sweet old soul Jessie. She was found as a pregnant stray. She came to us and had her babies who have all been adopted. When Jessie arrived, she had an eye that was very nasty. After seeing the eye specialist, we opted to have the eye removed to prevent more issues in the future. Her other eye has vision, but it is not very great. Once she learns her environment you’d never know she’s missing an eye/has bad vision in the other. She’s on two eye drops for life. Jessie’s age test came back as 8 years old. Jessie, like any hound breed, LOVES her food. She’s also become quite obsessed with walks and she’s super easy on the leash. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed and on flea/tick prevention. Puppies/dogs older than 3 months are on heartworm prevention. Please use the link below to fill out the application.  https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BHP/Dog

Story
Duke is a [age] yr old, 50 pound sweet and gentle hound who has really started to come out of his shell with us. He’s a quiet boy who loves his people, and his favorite things are tennis balls, stuffed toys, and getting attention. Duke is house-trained, vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He mostly ignores other dogs and would likely be happiest as the only pet in the home, where he can have his own space and enjoy being with his people. He can still be a little unsure in new situations, so he’ll need a patient home that will give him time to settle in and build confidence. Duke’s Story: Duke was found in the Everglades bravely protecting two small dogs who had become his little pack. He did his best to keep them safe in a dangerous place, and now it’s his turn to have someone look out for him. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was scared and uncertain, but little by little, he has opened up and shown us how sweet he can be. We think Duke has a lot of potential with the right person and a calm, loving home. Could you be the hero Duke has been waiting for? To meet him, please complete an application at AbandonedPetRescue.org. Abandoned Pet Rescue is a no-kill animal shelter in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Story
Rusty is literally the perfect dog. He loves everyone, human and canine, and is the friendliest boy you could wish to meet. He has a playful nature and a sense of fun that reminds you to feel joy in the little things - a ride in the car, a new squeaky ball or a silly hat. Rusty is happiness in canine form, the sunshine on a cloudy day who wants nothing g more than to be with you and join in with the family. His behavior and manners make you look good all the time. People will think you are a professional trainer when they see him out in public - he even did well on a tour at the Kennedy Space Center recently with his foster family (and yes, he wants to be a rocket scientist when he grows up). He is popular, smart and always cooperative. Rusty adores kids and thinks he is one. Ge is gentle and knows his size but he is also happy to take part in assorted childhood games and shenanigans. Rusty is the dog your kids will tell their own kids aboht one day. He really is that special.

Story
Meet Gunner! Gunner is a 1-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who was originally born in our care in 2025. He was adopted as a puppy, but unfortunately, he struggled to adjust to his new home and was eventually returned to us. Now, Gunner is looking for a family who understands that sometimes the right match takes time and who is committed to helping him feel safe and settled. Gunner has a moderate energy level and is a fun, affectionate young dog. He loves toys and can happily entertain himself with a good play session, but he also has a very sweet side and loves to cuddle with his people. Once he feels comfortable, he enjoys being close and soaking up attention. He is good with both dogs and cats, making him a great option for a home with other animals. He is also housetrained, which gives his next family a great head start as they help him transition into a new environment. Because Gunner has already experienced the stress of being adopted and returned, he needs a family who is willing to give him the time and patience he needs to adjust. He may not immediately feel at home in a new environment, but with consistency, structure, and reassurance, he has the potential to become a wonderful companion. Gunner does not respond well to kids, so he will need an adult-only home or a home without children. His ideal family will understand his needs and give him the space and guidance necessary to build trust at his own pace. Gunner has already had to start over once. This time, he’s hoping for a family who will give him the chance to truly settle in and show them what a loving, playful, cuddly dog he can be. He’s ready for a fresh start—and he’s hoping this one will finally be forever.

Story
Meet Scarlett: Scarlett is a 7-year-old Bloodhound who was transferred to us from Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. When she arrived, she was overweight and had a large mass that required medical attention. After care and recovery, Scarlett is now healed and ready to begin her next chapter in a loving home. Scarlett is a very sweet, gentle girl with a low to moderate energy level. She would be well suited for a quieter household and could do well in an apartment or condo setting where she can enjoy a relaxed routine. Like many hounds, Scarlett is still learning polite leash manners and will benefit from continued practice and patience on walks. She does well with other dogs and enjoys calm companionship. At this time, we have not yet observed her interactions with children or cats, so slow, thoughtful introductions would be important in a home with either. Scarlett is looking for a kind, understanding family who will appreciate her gentle nature and give her the comfort and stability she deserves.
