Meet Cajun, a gorgeous Treeing Walker Coonhound with a little Louisiana in his soul - and a hound’s natural appreciation for making himself heard. His deep bay has plenty of character, but he’s much more easygoing than his voice suggests. Cajun is very sweet, loves attention, and has never met a treat he didn’t like.
Cajun came to Artemis after his owner lost his home and could no longer care for him. He’s great with other dogs, walks nicely on leash, and loves playing with his best buddy, Gumbo. He’s never lived inside a home, but we think he’ll adapt to the couch life just fine.
Cajun is ready for his own little taste of good company, good food, and a soft spot to settle in. In other words, he’s ready for some bons temps.
Cajun is currently undergoing slow-kill treatment for heartworm disease. The Artemis Project will continue to provide the necessary monthly medication for treatment until cleared of heartworms.

Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas.
We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI.
Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue.
Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee.

Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications.
The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport.
