Story
Mia is a beautiful 6-month-old pup weighing around 40 pounds who was adopted as a tiny puppy and is now looking for a home better suited to her needs. She is incredibly smart, loving, and full of potential, but as a young working-breed type dog, Mia will thrive with an active family committed to training, structure, and meeting both her physical and mental exercise needs.Mia is house-trained, crate-trained, and walks nicely on a leash. She is very friendly with strangers and has done well with older children. Like many adolescent puppies, she can become overly excited during play and is still learning boundaries. At times, her playful nipping can become too rough, so she would do best in a home with older children who understand how to interact appropriately with a young, energetic dog.Mia is happiest and most manageable when she is the center of attention. She currently lives with another dog and tends to be dominant, which can make things challenging. Because of this, Mia would do best as an only dog where she can fully focus on her people and training. She has not been around cats, but would probably be too much for them.As a typical curious puppy, Mia loves to explore the world with her mouth and will chew on just about anything if given the chance—so supervision and continued training are important. She’s very intelligent and eager to learn but can also have a stubborn streak. A family experienced with, or dedicated to learning about, working-breed dogs will help Mia become the incredible companion she is meant to be. She is so sweet and loving. She really wants to be part of the family.Mia is looking for a patient, active family who understands that puppies take time, consistency, and guidance. In return, she promises loyalty, fun, and so much love. With the right home committed to helping her succeed, Mia has all the makings of an amazing lifelong best friend. Story
Meet Nanna Nanna is a beautiful tri-colored Foxhound mix, approximately 1½ years old and 40 pounds, who is finally getting the chance to enjoy being a dog again.Nanna’s journey began when she and her nursing litter of eight puppies were abandoned at a high-kill shelter. For such a young mom, the shelter was no place to raise her babies. Thankfully, caring foster families stepped in and gave Nanna and her puppies the safety, love, and care they desperately needed. Now that her puppies have moved into their own foster homes, Nanna is thriving. After spending months focused on raising her babies, she’s finally getting the opportunity to relax, play, and enjoy life for herself. Her foster family says she has blossomed into a happy, gentle girl who loves being around people and other dogs.Nanna lives with several other dogs in her foster home and gets along wonderfully with all of them. She enjoys their company and has settled beautifully into family life. She also adores her foster family’s grandchildren and has shown herself to be a loving, patient companion around children. This sweet girl loves going for walks and does very well on a leash. She’s learning the routines of indoor living and continues to make great progress with house training every day. Nanna has also proven to be trustworthy in the home and is not destructive when left alone. One thing everyone notices about Nanna is how incredibly sweet and beautiful she is. Her photos are lovely, but they don’t fully capture how stunning she is in person. She has a soft, gentle nature and a kind soul that make her impossible not to love. Nanna has spent the first part of her young life devoted to raising her puppies and making sure they were safe. Now that her babies are growing up and finding homes of their own, it’s finally Nanna’s turn to be spoiled, cherished, and loved by a family who will give her the happy ending she deserves. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who gets along with everyone she meets, Nanna may be the perfect addition to your family. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   *This is a courtesy posting. Harlan is not at DPR, but his current owner asked us to help find him a great home!* Meet Harlan – A Sweet, Spirited Hound Looking for His Perfect Home Harlan is a 3-year-old hound mix with a heart as big as his nose! His Wisdom Panel DNA results reveal a rich hound heritage—53% American Foxhound, 26% Plott Hound, 19% Treeing Walker Coonhound, and a touch of Bluetick Coonhound—so it’s no surprise that he has a strong prey drive and a passion for following scents wherever they lead. Originally rescued after being abandoned on the side of the road, Harlan has blossomed into a loving, energetic companion. He adores being outdoors and lives for long walks, sniffing adventures, and any opportunity to use his hound instincts. He’s happiest when he has a job to do or space to roam, making him a great fit for an active household with land, a secure yard, or even a family who enjoys hunting or has experience with working breeds. Harlan is:  Up to date on all vaccinations  Neutered  Paperwork in hand  House-trained and eager to please  Best suited for someone experienced with strong, active dogs While Harlan is deeply affectionate and eager for companionship, he’s not the best fit for homes without secure fencing or those with limited mobility. His enthusiasm for tracking means he can be a strong puller on walks—even with training tools—and needs someone who can manage his strength and give him the stimulation he craves. We love Harlan dearly, but due to serious health challenges in our family and the lack of a secure yard, we know we’re no longer the right home for him. Our greatest hope is to find someone who sees his potential and can give him the life he deserves: safe, stimulating, and full of love.  If you have room in your home—and heart—for a smart, loving hound ready for his next adventure, please reach out. We’re happy to share more about his personality and history. Helping Harlan find his forever home would mean the world to us.  If you are interested in adopting, pleas fill out a 'Dog Adoption Application'   at   www.DelawarePetRescue.org/forms    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 9, 2026, 11:30 am
