Adoption fee: $650 Applesauce is a delightful little 1-2 year old Min Pin who weighs about 14 lbs and has personality to spare! She came to us from the shelter a bit unsure of the world, but in a short time she has truly begun to blossom. As her confidence has grown, so has her joy for life, play, and connection with her people.   Applesauce starts her day bright and early around 6:30 a.m. with a potty break, followed by breakfast and one of her favorite activities: a long morning walk. She happily accompanies her foster family on the walk to the school bus stop and then continues on for a full, active 45-minute stroll. She’s energetic and enthusiastic at the beginning of walks and may pull a bit out of excitement, but she settles in after the first 10–15 minutes and becomes a calm, pleasant walking companion. She mostly ignores other dogs she passes, enjoys greeting some people, and squirrels and birds are very exciting to her.   After her walk, Applesauce is content to relax at home. She’ll chew on a toy, play for a bit, and then happily curl up on someone’s lap for a long nap. She strikes a nice balance between playful energy and mellow downtime throughout the day. In the evening, after dinner around 6:30–7:00 p.m., she revs up again with playful bursts and indoor zoomies, showing off her fun and silly side. Her day winds down with a final potty break around 9:30 p.m., and she sleeps in a crate in the bedroom, usually settling in easily and sleeping through the night with minimal disruption.   Applesauce is a playful dog who loves her toys and enjoys a good chase game. She’s also a devoted cuddle bug and can happily spend an hour snoozing on a lap or curled up in her dog bed after exercise. She has bonded strongly with her foster mom and tends to follow her from room to room, earning her the affectionate title of “Velcro dog.”   She can be sensitive to unfamiliar noises in the home and will bark or growl when surprised, especially if she’s been sleeping. She’s also shown some uncertainty around men, particularly when caught off guard, though she does warm up with calm, patient interactions and is perfectly happy to cuddle once she feels safe. Applesauce would benefit from a home that understands she’s still settling, continues positive reinforcement, and helps her build confidence at her own pace.   Applesauce has interacted appropriately with teens and younger children, though her enthusiasm and tendency to jump straight up when excited may make her a bit much for very young kids. She hasn’t lived with other dogs in her foster home, but she lived in a room with several other dogs while at the shelter.   She’s made great progress with house training and now reliably signals when she needs to go outside— she’s even started using a bell, though that skill is still a work in progress. She does not use potty pads and prefers going outdoors. She’s crate trained for nighttime and understands that the crate means bedtime, though being crated during the day while her people leave is something she’s still learning and improving on.   Applesauce is smart, eager to please, and very treat-motivated. She already knows sit, down, and paw, and is currently working on come, stop, and stay. She learns quickly and clearly enjoys training and engagement. She’s also an enthusiastic chewer and will need durable toys and enrichment to keep her happily occupied.   Overall, Applesauce is a fun, affectionate, active little dog who would thrive with a family that enjoys daily walks, playtime, and interactive companionship. She loves being part of the action, soaking up attention, and sharing life with her people. If you’re looking for a playful, loving companion who will make you laugh, keep you moving, and reward your patience with deep loyalty and affection, Applesauce may be the perfect match.February 16, 2026, 4:19 pm

Adoption fee: $700 Light the menorah and get ready to fall in love — Dreidel is the last of the Hanukkah puppies still waiting for his forever home, and he’s ready to be the little miracle that lights up your life. Dreidel is a 12–13 week old Min Pin puppy rescued from the shelter, currently just over 3 pounds and expected to stay nice and small. What he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in confidence, affection, and personality.   Dreidel has been raised in foster care with lots of love and plenty of time around kids, and it shows. He adores people and wants to be close to his humans — being held, petted, cuddled, and included in whatever you’re doing. He’s playful and sweet, but also surprisingly polite for such a young puppy. Dreidel is far more motivated by affection than food; he eats lightly, sleeps soundly, and does his best to keep his sleeping area clean. He lets you know it’s time to potty with fidgeting or soft little noises, and bedtime is around 8 pm, after which he sleeps quietly through the night.   True to his name, Dreidel is the bold one. He’s confident and very smart, often taking charge when playtime starts. He’s the type of puppy who likes to know what’s going on and believes he should be involved in it all. He’s also very affectionate and eager to connect, and with gentle guidance and patience, he’s going to shine. He’s currently in a serious puppy “need-to-chew” phase, but he’s gentle, non-bitey, and easily redirected.   Dreidel is generally quiet, with just a small bark if he thinks you might be leaving without him. He does wonderfully with kids, doesn’t need much space due to his tiny size, and truly thrives on love, attention, and companionship.   Dreidel is a little Hanukkah miracle — sweet, clean, affectionate, and bright. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big heart and a confident sparkle to light up your home, Dreidel just might be your perfect match.February 12, 2026, 1:22 am

To be considered for adoption, please submit an application in advance at https://www.dpsrescue.com/adopt/dog-application/.   Adoption fee: $650 Lover Girl isn’t just a name — it’s her entire personality.   Meet Lover Girl, a 1-2 year old, 9 lb Italian Greyhound–MinPin mix who truly lives up to her name. Rescued from the shelter, this petite beauty has blossomed into an affectionate, intuitive, and incredibly devoted little companion. She is the definition of a lap dog with a thoughtful gaze and a gentle soul.   Lover Girl is a champion sleeper and happily wakes up when you do. She has been enjoying sleeping in bed with her foster family and absolutely loves to burrow completely under the covers, wrapping herself up like a tiny burrito. Mornings begin with a walk, where she promptly takes care of her business — she is fully potty trained and has impeccable manners. She understands the routine beautifully. When she sees the leash come out, she lowers her head to make it easy to slip on, clearly recognizing what “walk” means. She gets adorably excited on the way to the elevator and will try to engage you in a little play before heading out.   On leash, Lover Girl is attentive and connected. She doesn’t pull and prefers to walk close by your side, frequently locking eyes to check in and make sure you’re together. She may pop her little head into bushes to investigate, but overall she is polite and easy to walk. She can be nervous around other dogs and doesn’t show much interest in interacting with them, so she appreciates calm, respectful introductions and space.   During the day, Lover Girl is more of a cuddler than a busy bee. She spends much of her time snoozing, preferably under a blanket or curled up on your lap. If she wants attention, she’ll simply lock eyes with you — her silent request to be picked up or invited onto your lap. If you stop petting her, she’ll gently nudge your hand back into place or softly hold it with her paws. She loves being near her people and will follow you from room to room just to stay in your orbit. While she enjoys her naps, she’s also happy to run errands with you and be part of your day.   Weekends sometimes include a special outing to Starbucks for a pup cup, and thanks to her slim little nose, she can reach every last bit at the bottom. At home, she enjoys chicken breast, sweet potatoes, apples, and her rescue-provided kibble. She typically gets one special meal (chicken is her favorite) and one kibble meal daily. Be warned: when you’re eating, she will sit and gaze at you with eyes that make it very hard to say no.   Lover Girl is exceptionally clean and keeps herself tidy. Bath time is surprisingly easy — she stands calmly in the tub while being gently washed, showing just how trusting she is with her people. She is quiet and rarely barks. The only time she gave a small bark was when a new visitor first arrived, but she quickly warmed up and later snuggled under the covers next to him. Even when left home alone briefly, she doesn’t bark; her foster suspects she simply stays tucked under her blanket napping until you return.   Intelligent and emotionally attuned, Lover Girl understands “stop” immediately, knows “sit,” and learned “paw” in a single day without the use of treats. She is highly responsive to social cues and thrives on praise, especially chin and neck scratches. When she first arrived, she was understandably shy and even cried on the way home after parting from the volunteer she had bonded with. But she opened up quickly and revealed her deeply affectionate, trusting nature.   At the DPS Safehouse, Lover Girl met a cat. She sniffed politely and then turned her full attention back to her favorite volunteer, saying, 'Pick me up and hold me!' She would be an option for a home with cats!   Her ideal home would be one where she has companionship and love — a family or individual who appreciates a devoted little shadow and will continue building her confidence. She is a velcro-style companion who forms strong bonds and gives her whole heart to her people.   What sets Lover Girl apart is her emotional intelligence and her quiet, steady devotion. She is calm when carried, gentle in her affection, and deeply connected to the people she trusts. Her thoughtful eyes, her soft nudges for more pets, and her eagerness to please make her a truly special little dog.    February 16, 2026, 5:04 pm
