Story
Bear is a handsome, affectionate boy who forms deep bonds with his people and thrives on one‑on‑one attention. He loves being close to his humans, learning new things, and soaking up praise. With his sharp mind, eagerness to please, and strong food motivation, Bear is an incredibly trainable dog who already knows his commands well and enjoys showing them off.Bear is also a dog with some very specific needs, and the right home will make all the difference for him. He is highly selective about other dogs. While he can occasionally build a playful relationship with a very well‑matched canine friend, this is rare. More often, Bear becomes frustrated and reactive when he sees other dogs - becoming vocal, jumpy, hard to redirect, and sometimes mouthy. Because of this, staff have begun muzzle training. His future adopter should be prepared to continue this work. A muzzle will be an important tool for Bear during walks, vet visits, or any situation where he may encounter other dogs.Bear will do best with someone who has experience with reactive dogs and understands how to help him build calmness, focus, and confidence. He's a wonderful student, but he needs a handler who can guide him with patience, structure, and positive reinforcement - especially when his emotions run high.He also shows signs of separation anxiety, so a home with a flexible schedule would be ideal. Bear will need someone willing to gradually help him feel secure spending time alone, using gentle, consistent training to build his independence. In the right environment, one where he can be the only dog, enjoy routine, and feel supported! Bear has all the potential to be an incredible companion. He's loving, intelligent, goofy in the best ways, and deeply devoted to his people. Please note that all dog meet‑and‑greets are scheduled by appointment only. To request an appointment, please submit an online application. Our staff will contact shortlisted applicants directly to set something up.
