Story
Meet Nicholas: Nicholas and his siblings were abandoned at just a few days old and have since spent a great deal of time in a loving foster home. His foster said that "Nicholas will steal your heart (and your socks!)". He is the perfect blend of energetic adventurer and sweet cuddle bug. Whether he's chasing his favorite squeaky toy or curling up at your feet after a long play session, he just wants to be where the people are.Nicholas has shown some food resource guarding, specifically around his food bowl. While in our Centre, we have made good progress reducing this behaviour through consistent, positive training; however, it is important that an adopter is willing and able to continue this work at home, as the behaviour could return or worsen without reinforcement. This is especially important since Nicholas is expected to grow into a large dog, making unmanaged resource guarding more concerning. In the Centre, we address this by calmly interacting with his food during meals: adding high‑value treats to his bowl, briefly removing the bowl and replacing it with something better, or taking the bowl to add a treat before returning it. This is repeated several times per meal to help Nicholas learn that people near his food is a positive thing. The BC SPCA recommends working with an AnimalKind trainer if additional training support after adoption is desired.Due to his size and energy level, an active home without young children would set Nicholas up best for success. If you think Nicholas would be a good fit for your home, please come and meet him!Walk-ins are prioritized. We are open to walk in's Tuesday - Saturday 12 pm -4 pm (except for Stat Holidays). In order to prepare for your visit, you can submit a Pre-Adoption Questionnaire as well at;https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/dog-pre-adoption-questionnaire/ Primary Color: Black Weight: 12.78 Age: 0yrs 3mths 0wks

Story
Welcome to Ahki! This sweet young girl is eager to get started on her new world full of new friends and experiences, and cant wait to do it by your side. Ahki here is a spunky, fun and energetic puppy with all of the love and attention to offer her people. Ahki here is a smart little lady, and is going to be so much fun for a dedicated owner to offer her their time, patience, and loads of Positive Reinforcement training and redirection techniques. She is eager to please, and wants nothing more than to be by your side, and has sooo much potential to unlock.Ahki has great interactions with other dogs, and is excited to play with her canine pals in a fun game of chase, or try and play the trade game with all the best toys. She would adore a home with a well matched playmate, but wouldn't be a great pal for an older dog who prefers their peace and quiet as she is eager to play and can pester others to engage with her. She does have a prey drive, so would be seeking a home with no feline friends or small animals to chase. This sweet girl is so affectionate and loving, if she could be touching you all day, she would! She gets a bit frantic and can show some mouthy jumpy behaviors when amped up and unsure on what to do with herself, but is easily redirected with rewards like treats, affection and praise! This girly is so worth any extra efforts and love she requires, and will reward you for years to come with her amazingness!Ahki is seeking a mature home only at this time, so no kids or teens please.Interested? Apply below! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 29.5 Age: 0yrs 8mths 1wks

Viewable in Shelter: Yes, in dog kennels.***Meet Ellie!Ellie is a friendly, excitable girl looking for a new place to call home! She loves to play, is happy to meet new people and enjoys a good snack. This girl also walks like a dream on harness and loves squeaky toys!We have found that Ellie would likely prefer not the share her space with another dog and may do best as the only animal in the home, though with the right dog, she may want to play! Ellie is still working on her manners, and tends to jump up on people when she just can't contain her excitement. She can also be a bit of a scavenger and is definitely NOT to be trusted around garbage cans!***Thank you for your interest in adopting! Do you think you could be Ellie's person? Apply today!TIP: To aid our team in making the best match possible, applicants are encouraged to write a little bit about themselves when prompted.https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/dog-pre-adoption-questionnaire/The Victoria Center is open for in-person adoption viewings Tuesday through Sunday, 12pm to 4pm. Kitten and puppy meet and greets are by application only. Some animals may not be viewable due to limited shelter space, medical and behavioral reasons, or other contributing factors. Note that we receive a high volume of adoption inquiries each day, and may not be able to follow-up with every applicant.  Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 34.1 Age: 3yrs 1mths 0wks

Story
Meet Sophia!Sophia is a beautiful 3-year-old mix breed girl. What breeds? your guess is as good as ours! We think she may have German shepherd, Lab, Husky maybe pitbull? This sweet girl is full of energy and always excited to play. She loves fetch and is known to get the occasional case of the zoomies!Sophia can be quite chatty and will happily demand her dinner and walks, she's not shy about letting you know exactly how she feels. She's also very affectionate and loves being in your bubble and cuddling up close. Face-to-face cuddles are her favorite, and she'll happily ask you to hold her head when she's craving extra affection. After raising her pups, this sweet girl is ready for a home of her very own. Sophia is still learning her leash manners and can be strong on leash, so she'll benefit from continued training and an adopter who's comfortable working with a powerful, energetic dog. She has mastered sit and is a very treat motivated girl (this will help with further training)She's high-energy, loves to stay busy, and would thrive with an active adopter who enjoys adventures, training, and playtime. She's a total sweetheart who's ready to trade mom duties for being your loyal best friend. 🐾💬Think you could be Sophia's person? Here's how to find out:1. Story
Meet Forrest!Forrest is a handsome male shepherd with a big heart and a whole lot of love to give. This sweet boy is housetrained and loves spending time with his people. He bonds quickly and enjoys being part of the action. He does have a bit of minor separation anxiety, so he'll thrive best with someone who can help him feel safe and supported when left alone.Out on walks, Forrest is eager to please, but does get very excited about birds and other wildlife. With a little continued training, he'll be a great walking companion. He's also uniquely charming-he's missing a toe, which doesn't slow him down one bit and only adds to his character.Forrest is a big fan of chasing balls... returning them, though? Not really his thing. He prefers to make a game out of it, which is all part of his playful personality.Because Forrest is quite dog‑reactive, he will need to be the only dog in the home and will benefit from a confident owner who can help him continue working on calm, reward‑based behavior around other dogs. He will need a family that is willing to continue working with him through these behaviors. If you're interested in Forrest, please fill out an online application.
