Story
Meet Thor and Babs! Thor and his sister Babs are an adorable duo ready to meet their new forever family! This duo was brought to the spca from life on a farm, so they are well acquainted with wide open spaces, fresh air, and sunshine. These days, their dream is a slightly slower pace in a cozy home snuggled by a fireplace, lounging with their humans, and having loving people to share it all with. They are happy and friendly dogs who greet people with big smiles and enthusiastic wagging tails. Walks are one of their favourite activities, and they do very well on their leashes whether that's going on a familiar stroll or exploring a new area they are sure to be excited. When they are not on a stroll or soaking up as much attention as possible, you'll often find them lounging together in the yard, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the calm moments. They're experts at relaxation and would love a home that appreciates the balance of cozy downtime with adventure sprinkled into the mix. If Thor and Babs sounds like the right fit for your home, please fill in an application below! https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/dog-pre-adoption-questionnaire/ Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: Black Weight: 39.6 Age: 7yrs 0mths 0wks

🐾 River - Former Viral Sensation, Future Loyal Heart 🐾Written by: River herself (yes, the superstar).Whoa!! You again!I know, I know-you probably recognize me. River, the once‑mysterious wanderer found near the Agassiz bridge. I was cold, wet, and doing my best "sad movie moment" impression. My posts blew up everywhere-shared, liked, commented on. Honestly, I was kind of a big deal. (Still am.)I had more likes than I can count on my toes... not that I can count very high. Shepherd toes are for style and stability, not math. The kind folks at Cheam View Vet Hospital took me in, warmed me up, gave me treatments, and tried to find my people. But guess what?No one came.Turns out my stray-hold deadline came and went, and now I'm officially available for adoption. But here's where the story shifts.I'm a young Shepherd, and if you know Shepherds, then you know we're not just dogs-we're a whole personality category. Smart, sensitive, intuitive, loyal to a fault. We bond deeply. We need guidance, understanding, and people who truly get us.And me? Well... I'm a little shy right now.Life hasn't been all warm blankets and belly rubs. I've been let down by humans before, and I'm still figuring out who I can trust. So I'm looking for someone patient-someone who'll help me rediscover that people can be safe and wonderful.Ideal adopter checklist:✔️ Shepherd experience (yes, this is a requirement)✔️ Patience and a calm presence✔️ Someone who understands that trust is earned, not rushed✔️ Willing to guide me as I grow into the incredible dog I'm meant to beI'm not asking for fame anymore.Just a home. A forever one.Somewhere I can finally exhale, settle in, and be loved the way I deserve. If you're the kind of person who sees not just a dog, but a heart worth healing...I've been waiting for you. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: Black Weight: 36.9 Age: 3yrs 0mths 1wks

This sweet girl is full of energy and always excited to play. She's also very affectionate and loves being in your bubble and cuddling up close. Story
FOR ADOPTION: NYMERIA is a sweet and enthusiastic 1 year old, 65lb female German Shepherd mix. This stunning young lady came into our care when her previous owners realized they could not meet her needs. They made the right decision for Nymeria’s sake and now we will work to find her a family that matches well with her personality and energy levels. Nymeria hasn’t met a human she does not love. If you’re willing to rub her belly or throw her a toy she will be your best friend forever. She’s still a young dog that is working on impulse control so she will jump up if she’s super excited to see you but she does quickly regain control of herself and she has an excellent “sit” and “off” command. Nymeria’s excitement can be scary to young children that are not used to large, young dogs but she does try extra hard to be gentle around little people and she never means them any harm. For kids that are used to rowdy young dogs Nymeria is a super fun adventure buddy. Her current favourite human is the 10 year old son of one of our caretakers. Nymeria is just as excited to meet other dogs as she is with new people, again she can come on a little strong. Nymeria needs a dog buddy that will have patience with her as she works through her awkwardness in meeting new buddies. In Nymeria’s mind she is still a puppy and should be playing puppy style, unfortunately the other dogs see her for the gangly teenager she is and they expect her to be a bit more respectful and refined in her interactions with them. We will continue to help Nymeria gain experience interacting with other dogs, moving past her giant puppy antics. Unfortunately Nymeria is just as excited about cats and other small animals as she is people and dogs and this leads her to really want to chase them when they run. We do think she has no ill intent towards the small critters but starting to chase them could lead to a very bad outcome for the smaller animals. At this time we feel Nymeria would do best in a cat free home but she could be managed around securely penned chickens etc. As she matures, strengthens her training and has stronger impulse control cats could become an option for her as well. Nymeria has been fairly non destructive in her kennel and has pretty good leash manners when she’s not distracted. She has been enjoying “working walks” where she performs tasks such as on leash recall, “sit”, “touch”, “off” etc while out enjoying nature. Although she has a big, enthusiastic personality Nymeria is more of a medium energy level dog. She loves long walks and hikes and does well jogging or cross country skiing for about 5km. She could probably build up her stamina to run or ski longer, she just does not require that amount of exercise all at once. Nymeria thrives with mental stimulation in her life and would love a family that will be committed to keeping her brain as well exercised as her body. She enjoys treat dispensing toys during down time and would thrive in dog sports such as scent work (with the right handler she is a strong search and rescue candidate) and rally obedience. Nymeria is well mannered in the vehicle and has been completely clean in our kennels. She is spayed, vaccinated and up to date on parasite control. If you’ve been looking for an enthusiastic pooch to brighten your life apply today at www.NWAS.ca for a chance to meet NYMERIA #NWASNymeria
