Story
see description. Meet Abby, a resilient 4-and-a-half-year-old sweetheart whose breed mix is a delightful mystery, though we suspect there's some German Shepherd and American Pitbull Terrier in her lineage. Weighing in at 52 pounds, Abby's journey to our rescue was one of survival and healing. Discovered by a compassionate soul in October of 2023, Abby bore fresh wounds, evidence of recent battles likely from encounters with other dogs or perhaps even coyotes. It took months of dedicated care to mend her physical wounds and fight off the heartworm infection that threatened her well-being. Restricted to cage rest for over two months, Abby's resilient spirit shone through, and today she stands ready for her next chapter. While she's a tad on the plump side now, Abby's eager to shed those extra pounds with some regular exercise. She's a fan of leisurely strolls, though her excitement may lead her to pull on the leash or surprise you with sudden animal-chasing escapades. However, on her turf, Abby is a perfect hostess, getting along swimmingly with other animals. A true cuddle bug, Abby finds solace in snuggling up next to her favorite human, though she may initially show signs of past mistreatment by cowering at sudden movements. Fear not, as she readily accepts belly rubs and eagerly hops into cars for thrilling rides upon hearing the command, "jump in." Abby's journey to recovery has been nothing short of remarkable, and we're overjoyed to finally open the doors to her forever home. While she'd appreciate the company of a fellow canine companion, what Abby truly seeks is a home filled with love and devotion. Some basic training would do wonders for her, though she's already proven herself to be quite adept with her potty habits and adjusts well to being crated, we prefer it only for short periods as she you get to know and trust her, and she acclimates to her new surroundings. Spayed, up to date on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and faithfully on heartworm preventative medication, Abby is more than ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime with her new family. Her adoption fee is $225, a small price to pay for the boundless love and companionship she promises to offer. If you're ready to shower Abby with the love and attention she deserves, please consider opening your heart and home to her by applying at www.misfitsdogrescue.org July 12, 2024, 11:27 pm

Story
I am part of the "Go BIG for Summer" adoption promotion and my adoption fee is reduced to $200 (instead of $350) through August 31st!Hello, I'm Violet, a three-year-old female German shepherd weighing 80 pounds. I'm a friendly girl, though I can be a bit cautious at first. Once I feel comfortable, I'll eagerly approach you for pets and attention, and I love hearing what a good girl I am.I have a calm and gentle energy and am very tolerant of dogs that are more energetic than me. I don't get frustrated when they bounce all around me; in fact, I often prefer the company of my dog friends even more than my human friends. With my serene demeanor, I'm sure to be a very loyal and loving companion in my forever home.To keep me safe, I'll need a secure 6-foot fence. I also need a confident sibling in my home to help me grow in confidence and learn how to be the best dog I can be.Are you the special family who can give me the love, security, and companionship I need? If so, I can't wait to meet you and start our journey together.- - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. I'm looking for a family who can help me find alternative ways to get some exercise that don't cause me pain. Despite my size, my heart is even bigger, and I'm ready to win yours and keep it forever. Are you the caring family who can help me stay healthy and happy? Larry arrived to us very shy but has now truly come into his own. Weighing in at 67 pounds, he thrives in the company of other dogs and enjoys interacting with them during playtime. His favorite activity, though, is going for walks off property, where his leash skills truly shine.Larry would make an excellent hiking or walking companion, as he is great on a leash and loves to explore. He has grown to adore people and now greets them willingly, his gentle and calm energy making him a joy to be around.Treats are one of Larry's favorite things, and he gets so excited when someone approaches him with a harness. This sweet boy is ready to be the most loyal companion to someone special. Are you ready to welcome Larry into your life?
