Story
Benji is a 9-year-old, 72-pound German Shepherd with a gaze that speaks of all he’s been through—and a quiet hope for what lies ahead. After spending far too long without a home to call his own, Benji is seeking a compassionate hospice placement where he can be safe, comfortable, and deeply loved. He’s incredibly smart and very treat-motivated, making him a joy to connect with and a quick learner despite his limitations. Benji loves people and forms strong, loyal bonds once trust is built. He does not do well with other dogs and will need to be the only dog in the home, where he can fully relax and feel secure. Benji has mobility challenges and is slowly losing the use of his back legs. Because of this, he needs a home with no stairs and no slippery surfaces, or a space where he can comfortably settle and move safely. A calm environment with short, gentle routines and plenty of patience will help him feel at ease. What Benji wants most is simple: a quiet home, a soft place to rest, and someone willing to walk beside him through this stage of his journey. For the person who opens their heart to this sweet senior soul, Benji offers unwavering loyalty, deep gratitude, and a love that is truly special. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Hello! Alfie is a beautiful 10 month old male German Shepherd. He was picked up from Elizabeth, CO. Alfie has been my loyal companion who loves playing fetch at the parks, loves playing with water, loves hiking, and loves the good ole Colorado snow. Unfortunately, Alfie started showing reactivity towards dogs since he was only 3 months old. He’s pretty neutral will people and everything else. He can be pretty protective when people try to pet him, so management is key. His recall is amazing, he’s kennel trained, loves to be outdoors. I would recommend him to anyone who can help through his reactivity and who has the time in the day to play with him everyday. A backyard will be great! I will offer to pay for his neutering and a meet and greet for potential adoption.

Story
Kirra is a very loyal companion who is extremely smart! She knows basic commands but will be quick to pick up any new ones. She is more driven by affection than food but she won’t turn one down if it’s offered. It’s extremely difficult to be giving her up but she just doesn’t get along with other dogs. She’s been amazing with children and adults but she will benefit from a single pet home so she doesn’t have to compete for love. I adopted her August 2021 as a 6mo old but as the household dynamic has changed, she’s had difficulty adjusting to our other dog. Kirra is such an obedient and loving dog so if that’s what you’ve been missing in your life, she could be your missing piece!

Story
Alex is a black working-line male German Shepherd, 2 years 11 months, intact. Sweet, social, and playful—great with small children; friendly with adults (no bite history); good with other dogs; curious about cats and tries to play. Vaccines and vet records are current and available. Smart and fast learner but not advanced-trained; ideal for an active, experienced home that understands higher-drive dogs and will keep up daily exercise mental work. Fair-sized, fenced yard needed. He has never been in a crate even as a puppy because it was never necessary. It would be extremely inappropriate/cruel as well behaved adult. Never neutered nor was ever necessary. Currently on Royal Canin wet/dry; please continue a comparable high-quality diet. NE Colorado Springs preferred, but right long-term fit matters most. Private placement with screening, meet-and-greet, and written agreement: if adopter can’t keep him, Alex must be returned to me—no third-party rehoming and no shelter surrender.

About Dexter: 1-year-old German Shepherd mix 70 lbs of pure sweetness In excellent shape and ready for adventure! What Makes Dexter Special: This smart boy comes with an impressive skill set! He's housetrained, cratetrained, and already knows sit, shake, other paw, down, and leave it. Dexter is eager to please and loves learning new tricks - he responds beautifully to his name and is incredibly sweet and cuddly. Living with Dexter: Gets along wonderfully with small dogs and has a submissive, gentle temperament with other pups Can coexist with cats (though he may want to play!) Thrives on routine and daily exercise Loves puzzle toys, squeaky toys, bones, and antlers Gets excited at the start of walks (working on leash manners!) Sensitive to fireworks and very loud noises Ideal Home: Dexter is looking for an active family with a yard and preferably another dog friend to romp around with.
