Story
Hi, I’m Star! I’m a 10-year-old white German Shepherd lady looking for my forever home. Even though I’m a senior, I still have lots of energy for walks, playtime, and adventures with my people! I love being active, exploring, and spending quality time with those I trust. I’d love a home where I can be loved, kept engaged, and treated like the loyal companion I am. In return, I’ll give you devotion, fun, and plenty of heart. If you’re looking for a spirited, loving friend, I’m your girl!

Story
Chevy came to us with his brother Charger after their owner passed away in early 2024. Since that time we learned that Chevy never really knew what a toy was, he is a very smart dog with a drive to play. He is very high energy, despite his age, and requires someone who can give him the time and dedication needed to help him realize that this truly is the life-play, run, fetch, play some more, all the things. He does not know that the ball will still be there tomorrow, so he does not like to give it back. He will learn one day, they are plentiful. Chevy did well with Charger, but he was the boss of Charger. He requires a meet & greet to ensure compatibility. Due to his prey drive, he requires a fully fenced in yard, and we do not recommend he go with cats or small dogs. Feel free to complete our adoption application found here: www.elkcountryanimalshelter.org/adoption and contact us to arrange any meet & greets.

Story
Chloe is a very friendly, high energy dog who lives for fetch and all the treats. She interacts well with other dogs her size with proper introductions and we would require a meet & greet to ensure compatibility. Chloe does not like smaller dogs or cats. Given her size and energy, she is not recommended for children under the age of 5-6. Feel free to complete our adoption application found here: www.elkcountryanimalshelter.org/adoption and contact us to arrange any meet & greets.

Story
Zorro came to us stray in July of 2024 after some kind visitors spotted him at the local cabins. After about a week, guests and staff were able to secure him and get him to the shelter for safety. Since his arrive we have learned he is very much a sweet boy who is just unsure of those around him. Very weary of new people, slow and steady wins the race they say. He will eventually give your hand a little nose bump or lick if you wait long enough. He thrives with a companion, so we highly recommend and encourage a meet & greet to see if he likes your current 4 legged friend. As that will be your ticket to his heart, if you bring him a friend. Due to his very shy demeanor, he requires a fully fenced in yard to ensure his safety and security. At the first loud noise, scary weather---he will seek escape or security. We want to see him thrive in a home who will provide him all the protections he needs so that he will feel safest with his people and pals. Feel free to complete our adoption application found here: www.elkcountryanimalshelter.org/adoption and contact us to arrange any meet & greets.

Story
Cooper was surrendered to us after a not so pleasant interaction with a smaller dog. Given Cooper`s high prey drive, we do not recommend him for a home with small dogs, cats or other small animals. Cooper also requires a fully fenced in yard, as he lives to run. He will run circles around you while you pluck your weeds and after he`ll come and sit in your lap and soak up all the pets. He does well with other dogs his size, and we require a meet & greet to ensure compatibility. Feel free to complete our adoption application found here: www.elkcountryanimalshelter.org/adoption and contact us to arrange any meet & greets.
