Story
NEWBIE ALERT!! Meet Maxwell!! Maxwell is a German Shepard mix who is a little under a year old. Maxwell “Max” was found at a local tourist attraction in a kennel with a rope tied around his neck. Max is a very calm well mannered boy. He is not a big barker, walks well on a leash. Loves people and other dogs (hasn’t been around cats yet). He even goes to work with his foster mom and just lays around living the good life. Maxwell is utd, hw neg (tested below detectable levels), neutered and ready for his forever home! Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! We never state any animal is fully House-trained. New environments, situations, families, routines, ect. can lead to accidents even with the most well trained animals.  All dogs have a $175 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter! Puppies will be altered before adoption. All rescues and shelters practice pediatric spay and neuter. This is essential in our rescue efforts and it is a policy that we will stick by. All dogs over 8 weeks and 2 pounds will be altered before adoption. There are no exceptions to this rule on all healthy and adoptable dogs. We have researched and discussed in depth with multiple vets everything on pediatric spay and neuter and from a rescue stand point it must be done. Please do not ask for an extension on spay and neutering, it will NOT be granted on a healthy puppy!  Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. Deposits can ONLY be submitted once the rescue has been in contact on your approval and it has been requested through Wags and Whiskers. This deposit is applied to your adoption fee and the remaining $125 is due at pick up. Wags and Whiskers is an all-volunteer rescue. Please allow us time to respond to all inquires and applications! Thank you! Story
Brooklyn is a beautiful 9 month old Husky/Shepherd Mix who is smaller in size at around 45 pounds. She and her siblings were posted on facebook as needing rescue after being abandoned by their mom when they were just a few days old. This turned out to be a lie, but they weren’t in a good situation and needed rescue. One of our nursing mom fosters, who had lost several of her own puppies, took them in as her own until they were weaned. Brooklyn is an intelligent, athletic, and affectionate girl but it takes her a little while to trust new people. Once she does, she is attached for life and very loyal and will let you do practically anything to her. She is food motivated which will make training easy once a bond is formed and she loves her crate – in fact, she will put herself in it when she sees it’s getting time for her foster mom to leave for work. Brooklyn is housetrained via a dog door, but we’re pretty sure she’s fully housetrained. She currently lives with 8 other dogs of various ages and size (8lbs-80lbs) and is good with them but does require a brief introduction period – she can be a little bossy for the first 5-10 minutes. Brooklyn is great in the car and loves to go on walks – she could use a little work on the leash but mainly because she wants to chase everything that moves – but again, she is trainable with the right motivation. She seems to have a drive to please and learn new things as she is very attentive everything around her and really looks for guidance from her “person”/foster mom. At night, Brooklyn curls up close and sleeps soundly until you are ready to get up. We believe Brooklyn will do best in a home with another dog she can learn from and play with at her level, a person/family who is willing to take the time to earn her trust and help build her confidence, older or no kids and no cats because she does have some herding breed tendencies. If you are interested in meeting or knowing more about Brooklyn, please submit an application and her foster mom will be happy to reach out to you. Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter Pets (FJCASP) is a foster-based rescue for dogs and cats. All pets are in a home environment cared for by a foster person who provides temporary care until the pet can be placed in a permanent home. Friends of Jackson County is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. If interested in meeting this baby, you can find an online adoption application at https://fjcasp.wufoo.com/forms/adoption-application/ Adoption fees covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, wormers and preventatives and range from $125-$150. All of our animals have been heart worm tested and are on monthly preventions. You can help save a life by fostering an animal from FJCASP. If interested in fostering you can find an online foster application at https://fjcasp.wufoo.com/forms/foster-application If you would like to donate to help us help the foster parents with food, medications and preventatives you can paypal us at fjcasp@gmail.com or you can donate supplies at the LaundroMutt in Ocean Springs!
