*** IMPORTANT UPDATE*** Jake needs a home immediately! Large breed dogs only no small dogs! If he goes back to the shelter it will not be a good thing for him but he can’t stay here I have mostly small dogs. Someone save him! 🐾 Meet Jake - Courtesy Post Jake is a 10-month-old Shepherd mix with so much love to give and his whole life ahead of him. After spending 22 long weeks (159 days) living in a shelter kennel, he’s finally getting the chance to decompress in foster care and show everyone what an incredible dog he truly is. Jake is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and received a clean bill of health at his first vet exam. He is kennel trained and settles beautifully in his crate — no barking or carrying on. He is leash trained, knows “sit” on command, is easy to handle, and is even great for nail trims, which says a lot about his gentle and trusting temperament. He is wonderful with small children and has a sweet, patient nature that makes him an excellent potential family dog. Jake has done well with other dogs overall and enjoys canine companionship. However, since being in foster care we have had a few run-ins with my small dogs, and it has become clear that Jake has a prey drive. Because of this, a home with small dogs or small animals would not be safe or appropriate for him. Jake would do best in a home with medium to large, friendly dogs that enjoy play but also respect boundaries. He reads other dogs well, takes correction appropriately, and settles when playtime is over. In the videos I’ve posted, that was actually his first time meeting my dogs. I kept him on leash initially so I could maintain control if anything went wrong — my dogs will listen and back off when I tell them to, but a brand-new dog hasn’t built that trust yet. Jake handled introductions well and continues to adjust as he decompresses. He loves toys (especially tennis balls), enjoys having something to chase or carry, and has shown no resource guarding with food or toys. He shares space appropriately with people and larger dogs. Jake is a young dog who wants to please, learns quickly, and already has a wonderful foundation. His personality is shining more every day, and it’s clear he just wants a family to call his own. He will likely grow into a medium-to-large size dog and needs a home prepared for his size, energy, and play style. He has waited far too long for someone to choose him. He deserves a home where he’ll be loved, included, and set up for success. If you’re looking for a loyal, sweet, well-mannered companion, Jake might just be your perfect match. ❤️🐾 Interested in adopting Jake? Please apply at Tired Dog Rescue
