Story
Mercy is such a wonderful girl. I got her from someone who was getting too sick to take care of her, and her home before that was abusive towards her. She is so smart and loving and still has so much puppy in her, she is about 2 years old. She knows many commands and is great at listening, some times she can be a brat and not listen right away. She does have some troubles with tinkling when she gets too excited or when she thinks shes in trouble. She does not do well with other dogs in a home or outside. She has lived with three cats and really just ignores or sometimes tries to play with them. She is great with kids, just likes to jump. Sometimes with large groups she will try to herd people by snapping at their sides, she isn’t trying to hurt anyone she just wants them to move. She really just needs some patience and someone that would be willing to work with her and her anxiety. I would love to stay in contact for at least a few months so i can see how she is doing.

Story
Meet Heidi, a 3 to 4 year old german shepard mix who embodies the essence of loyalty and love. Shy at first in completely new homes, Heidi's heart opens up to reveal a friendly, smart, and goofy personality. She is diligently house trained and kennel trained. She does bark the kennel if she can hear you walking around the home or talking, so she may not be the best fit for apartments. At her current foster home Heidi settles fairly quickly in the kennel and kennels overnight peacefully. At any given point during the day Heidi is ready for a cuddle or play session and just wants to be near someone, becuase she becomes deeply bonded with her person. Heidi LOVES playing chase in the backyard with her canine foster siblings. She also loves wrestling and sharing toys with her canine foster siblings inside the home. Heidi lives in her foster home with a handful of felines that she respects. She doesn't chase the cats. She will go up and sniff them from time to time but mostly let's the cats guide the interaction with her. Heidi would also be a GREAT traveling companion because she loves to adventure so if you or someone you know drives semi, or loves to vacation, Heidi would LOVE to tag along for the ride. Heidi loves to meet new friends of the human or canine variety on walks around the neighborhood. Heidi is incredibly friendly and socially aware in all situations except one. Heidi has spent most of her short life euth listed in shelters or bouncing from foster home to forever home and back to foster home. For such a fun-loving, easy going, low maintence friend, she can't seem to find her forever spot that will accommodate her one faux-paux. It's not a small faux-paux, but it's SO easily workable, that we know there is a FOREVER out there for Heidi. She can be territorial once she think shes found her home, which makes her not too keen on strangers on her turf. She is friendly with visitors in the backyard, but once they come in the home she becomes anxious. This makes her an excellent choice for someone who is an introvert/homebody that also doesn't enjoy people in their space or an extrovert that would love to take her out on an adventure with them. All she needs is someone that will kennel her up if the party is coming home. She is a great choice for someone seeking a faithful extroverted adventure buddy and a low-maintenance roommate. Heidi's intelligence, loyalty, and unique charm make her the perfect addition to any steady home. Adopt Heidi and discover the joy of unwavering canine companionship. Story
Charley is a sweetheart!! She is the only one from her litter whose ears matured ahead of the rest of the pack and stick straight up. We won't speculate whether that is due to her being more mature herself, but we're betting that is not the case. But it definitely gives her one of the cutest little faces we have seen. Miss Charley does like to snuggle on the couch, but that is after getting in some play time and some investigating out in the yard. She loves to chew on her deer antler and on bully sticks while hanging on the couch. While she can be ornery, once you pet her and have her next to you, she melts into you and enjoys every second of being loved up. Charley loves to be around other dogs and is in her element when she gets to play. She loves chasing her ball and she is learning to fetch. Her foster is working on commands with her and she is very treat motivated. she is kennel trained and potty trained. She does have a doggy door at her current foster home and loves to run in and out of it. If you think this sweet face would be the best addition to your family, please fill out an application. She is such a sweet girl and would love to find her forever family.

Story
Henry is a laid-back kind of guy. He does love to play, cuddle and chew his giant bones. He will require lots of room to run, especially with a friend that will play with him. Suggest a well secured yard and a strong arm to walk him. He does not know he is big. Below is a link to Henry's DNA results. The top 2 are German Shephard (White) and American Pit Bull. the other 11 genetic breeds make for an interesting mix, but also Henry's unique view of the world! https://www.wisdompanel.com/app/s/46pc5mr

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Ronin is a very sweet boy who was originally rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota and adopted from us as a puppy. Ronin was recently returned to our rescue as a senior (with another dog, Kaiya), due to no fault of their own, when their humans' went through some challenging life changes. Ronin came back to us needing some TLC and vet care. Especially, in regards to a skin issue on his face that had gone untreated for a while. He has received treatment and nothing further is needed. He is doing great, other than he may not be able to completely regrow fur in all spots, due to how long the issue was neglected. He has already regrown so much fur, though, and he looks so great!Ronin is such a character! He is a friendly, funny, goofy boy, who is fairly well-behaved on outings. He can be a little barky around strange dogs but reacts well to correction. He does well meeting new people easily when out and about. He benefits from slower introductions when meeting strangers in the house, as he is more protective of the other animals in his home. Ronin is dog-friendly, just needs slow introductions with new dogs over a couple of days. He does well with all the adults and kids in his foster home. At the end of the day he always wants to jump up and snuggle with his humans. He is a very sweet boy!  Like any of our dogs, this handsome boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that her breed needs. Because of that, Ronin's ideal owner will have prior GSD or other herding breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners. Ronin's adoption fee is $225, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.October 26, 2024, 2:26 pm
