Story
Meet Levi!! Levi is a 14 week old shepherd mix pup. Here's what his foster mom has to say: Hes kennel trained. Sleeps through the night. Has NEVER had an accident in his kennel. He will let you know when he's in there, that he has to go potty. House training is a work in progress. But he's doi g better. We do have to watch his water in take. Going to start bell training this weekend. He can be a bit nervous around new people but that doesn't last long. He would do great with another dog in the house that likes to play. Hes learning basic commands. We have been working on sit, down, wait, and nice. Levi is super smart and food motivated. Hes dog friendly and ready for adoption on contract to finish his vetting. #nonprofitanimalrescue #fosterbasedrescue #fosteringsaveslives #fosterpuppiesofinstagram #adoptable

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Meet Jack — an adorable Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler) puppy with a big personality and an even bigger heart! This sweet boy is incredibly friendly with both people and other dogs, making him a wonderful companion for an active household. At just 3 months old, Jack is already off to a great start. He’s doing well with crate training and typically only wakes up once during the night. He’s also making excellent progress with potty training! Like a true Cattle Dog, Jack is smart, curious, and full of playful energy. He’ll thrive in a home that can provide plenty of mental stimulation and physical exercise to keep him happy and engaged. Jack is the total package: affectionate, cheerful, and always ready for fun. He loves cuddle time, chew toys, and romping around with other pups. If you’re looking for a loyal, lively companion to grow up with your family, Jack might be your perfect match! Like all Australian Cattle Dogs and other herding breeds, Jack will thrive in a home that provides structure, consistency, training, and plenty of physical and mental activity. His ideal home will be active, committed, and experienced with ACDs, GSDs, or similar breeds. A playful canine companion would be a big bonus! Even with a fenced yard, daily walks and outings are essential to help Jack stay well-balanced, build good manners, and avoid boredom. Adoption Details Jack’s adoption fee is $425, which helps offset veterinary expenses and allows us to continue rescuing dogs in need. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization and rely on adoption fees and donations to save lives. The adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter Age-appropriate vaccinations Fecal testing and deworming Flea/tick and heartworm prevention Heartworm testing (and treatment if needed) Microchipping To learn more about our adoption process and apply, please visit: http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.April 22, 2026, 1:44 pm

Story
Zeze is a loveable and highly energetic dog. She had a rough start to life and because of this, she is not well trained. However, she is very smart and very willing to learn, with the right time and training. She is 4 or 5 years old and loves sticks and outdoors runs. She has never been around kids and gets anxious around other dogs. She has done well with cats. She does okay in a crate, but would benefit more from a larger, outdoor kennel. Zeze deserves her forever home with the right person that is willing to give her their time.

Teddy is about 12-weeks-old, a 9-pound bundle of playful energy, and oh so smart. He loves to stay busy, whether he’s running around the yard with other dogs, tossing toys around inside, or bouncing from one fun activity to the next. He would thrive in an active home that can keep up with his happy, curious spirit. While Teddy enjoys playtime, his favorite place is right next to his people. He enjoys being held when walking around and is happy to lay at your feet when he needs to catch a snooze! As he gains confidence, he’s also starting to explore more on his own and alongside his foster dog siblings. Teddy has been wonderful with young children (ages 2–5 yo). He’s also incredibly smart—he’s already doing great with potty training and has taken to crate training like a champ. This soft little teddy bear of a pup is ready to find his forever family! Like all German Shepherds and herding breeds, Teddy will thrive in a home that provides structure, consistency, training, and plenty of physical and mental activity. Story
Hi... I'm Daryl. For a long time, I was on my own. My past is unknown to anyone but me, but when I found my way to CHS, I was matted, dirty, nearly blind, and terrified. But things are different now. Some kind humans helped fix my severe entropion (my eyelids curled into my eyes for so long and caused significant pain and blindness), and for the first time in a long while, the world isn't quite so dark. I'm still figuring it all out, though. What is a toy? Why do humans laugh? How do you be a dog?I'm learning. Slowly, but really trying.I've discovered that other dogs make everything easier. They show me what to do, where to go, and help me understand routines. Honestly, having a dog friend makes me feel safe in a way I don't quite know how to explain, so I'll need a home with another kind, confident pup who can be my guide. People... I'm learning about you too. Turns out, you're pretty cool. Gentle voices, patient hands, and enrichment toys are all new favorites of mine. I might be a little awkward at first (okay, maybe a lot awkward), but underneath that "quirky" exterior is a dog who is finally discovering what it means to feel safe... and maybe even happy.Because I still can't see very well (The humans at CHS think I was left with cataracts and potentially scarring from my previous medical issues), I'll need a family who understands that I experience the world a little differently. I might bump into things sometimes, or take a bit longer to figure out new spaces. But with patience, consistency, and love, I keep getting braver every day.I'm not looking for perfect. I'm looking for patient. For kind. For someone who sees the progress I'm making and wants to be apart of my story. If you are interested in meeting me, please call the Behavior Department at 402-441-4490 to talk about me and if you think you could be my new BFF :) Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: White Weight: 67.7 Age: 5yrs 2mths 0wks

Story
I am: - A super athlete! I will need a home either with a fenced in yard or an owner who loves to go on walks/runs, I would be a perfect fit for an active owner.I would also need an experienced GSD owner or someone who is willing to do research on how to take care of German Shepherd`s needs and keep our minds stimulated!- I would do best in a single animal home, I can be very selective with my animal friends.- I love my stuffed animals and will carry them around in my mouth, staff thinks this is sooo cute!- I will need some work on leash manners, I do pull when on a leash. If you are interested in adopting or fostering me, please inquire with CNHS!
