Story
Apollo was born about June 26, 2023 and weighs about 60 pounds.  He is with us due to a divorce and his human mom and kids couldn't find an affordable new home that allowed dogs.  Joyful was attracted to helping Apollo find a new home because he was described as a fun loving, goof.  Apollo was raised with children that are now 4 and 6 and he was wonderful with them and even though he does, at times, when happy to see his adult humans jump up on you he knew not to do so with the children.  He is house trained and does travel fine in the car.  We crated him (he is crate trained) on the almost hour ride here and he did whine a bit but it was all so confusing as his mom helped him in the car and had to walk away.  He was wonderful with the other large dogs in the house that he'd grown up with and he's been fine with the littles here at the rescue.  When he is feeling intimidated by any of them he does show his teeth to show how tough he is but he quickly backed down to 'Jack' our spicey sanctuary 10# Chihuahua.  As for breed he was said to be a Malamute mix...maybe...likely there is some northern breed in there somewhere but he has German Shepherd coloring or could it be Elkhound?  He has quite the fluff on his back legs and on his loosely curled tail.  He also has adorable small ears that remind us of a Shar Pei.  If you adopt Apollo and do a DNA test we'd love to know the results.  There is one more physical oddity that we've noticed and that is the fur on the back of his neck from the skull and about 4 more inches the fur stands up as if he 'has his fur up' only it never goes down - weird.  He will bark when someone knocks on the door but when she opened it and he came to greet me he was all wags and wiggles and thought I was pretty cool.  It's possible due to his up bringing he may bark at men somewhat more than women.  So, again, she just let him out the door so it quickly became apparent that he is not a runner and will hang with his beloved humans.  Apollo would be happy if he is able to join you on the couch or on your lap.  He has lived with cats and is said to have playfully chased them at times but never hurt anyone.  He has not been many places and was 'super shy' when he went to the vet's office and he had some weird nasal thing in 2025 that could not be diagnosed properly so the owner applied apple cider vinegar in his nostril every day for a couple of weeks and it's gone.  It did leave one nostril pink and the other one black - again - weird.  Oh, and we found out very quicky that he can jump a 3' gate, but has not challenged any of the 5' or 6' fences. He enjoys toys and squeaky is fun.   And he is a swimmer!  Whew!  This is a lot and it's wonderful to know so much about a new dog and we trust all this information will help you decide if Apollo is right for you!   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $350.00 fee reduced due to him coming to us already neutered. Story
Zeus was born around August 20, 2018 and is at a healthy weight of about 90 pounds.   Zeus is with is because his human passed away.  Zeus is a very happy GSD and adores humans big and small but we are going to say no small kids because he doesn't know how big he is.  Zeus is wonderful with other dogs but he can not live with cats as they are just too much fun to chase. Zeus rides beautifully in the car and walks ok on a leash. He also hangs with you nicely off leash with an occasional reminder of calling him back.  Zeus is slightly weak in the back end and will need NSAIDS such as Rimadyl to keep him comfortable.  Zeus came to us with missing hair on his side from a flea infestation but it is growing back quickly.  Zeus is an incredible GSD, but please remember these XL breeds need lots of vet care at the end of their lives.  You must be prepared financially and emotionally to give this guy everything he deserves, he's so worth it and we love him already.  The Adoption Fee for this dog is $450.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Story
Snow was born about February 13, 2024 and may top out in the 55 lb. range.  This long-legged beauty is very unusual looking and we feel her behavior is somewhat Husky and appearance is somewhat GSD and then there is some gray/black spotting on her skin which shows through her white fur - she's unique!  We also feel her butt is taller than her front which could be from a herding type breed.  Her personality is just FUN!  When meeting the other dogs it was all about play and so many of them were very attracted to her and they all took turns playing until she was simply tired out.  Her first day here was a blast for her, the other dogs, and us watching the antics!  Snow rides well in the car and she does fine on leash.  We feel this girl likely needs a fenced yard and surely another really fun dog to be her BFF!  She is not much of a barker which we love.  One negative is that she will counter surf as we found a banana on the floor that where she ate most of it omitting the peeling - funny girl!  No matter what time of year it is:  Let is Snow, let it Snow, let it Snow! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_500.00_. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Story
Meet Tessa - She is a German shepherd mix who is one very intense girl! In order for Tessa to be happy and thrive in a new home, she needs a lot of mental stimulation, she is very focused and intense, high energy and confident. She would be a good working dog, as she is not your typical house dog. She also would need a fenced yard to keep this very active girl contained. She would do best as the only pet, she needs a lot of activity and exercise. She would not be a good fit with children under the age of 16.

Story
Pepper came to us a couple weeks ago and we had hoped for an easy transition with our other 2 GSD’s. She would thrive in a single person home, with no other pets. She has a strong prey drive for cats. She is an amazing dog, she knows some commands, ie. sit, walk, down.
