Story
🚨 URGENT – LEO WILL BE KILLED IF NOT SAVED 🚨 Leo came into the shelter as a stray, and he is absolutely terrified. The shelter environment is overwhelming for him, and fear has shut him down. He hides in the corner of his kennel, trembling, trying to disappear. At intake, he was so scared that staff could not safely vaccinate him due to fear-based nipping — this is not aggression, this is pure panic. With patience and kindness, Leo showed who he truly is. Once given time, he allowed himself to be gently carried so his photo could be taken. Beneath the fear is a sweet, sensitive soul who just needs someone to go slow and show him he’s safe. 🐾 Dog-friendly 🐾 Sweet but terrified 🐾 Shut down in the shelter 🐾 Needs a calm, patient home or rescue Leo is NOT doing well in the shelter, and that is why his life is in immediate danger. Dogs like Leo don’t survive loud, stressful kennels — they need compassion, not a death sentence. 🙏 Leo desperately needs NOW.TO SAVE HIS LIFE‼️ Someone willing to give him time, space, and understanding will save his life and watch him blossom. ⏰ TIME IS RUNNING OUT. Please help save him. Fear should never be a death sentence. TEXT KAREN 4136298152

Story
MINA aka SARA is almost 9 months old and a sweet, friendly pup who loves people. Mina is a smart, curious girl who’s full of puppy energy. She enjoys training and is very food motivated. After a day of running in the yard and playing with her toys, she loves a good snuggle. She doesn’t mind the crate during the day but wants to be near her people at night. Mina is fearful reactive to many dogs. She currently will bark fiercely but does not charge the other dog. She can be corrected by a tug on leash and pulling away. This behavior could be significantly improved with training. Currently she will need to be an only dog. 🐾 Mina walks well on leash and is a favorite of the volunteers. Knows sit and some other commands and takes treats gently. She loves car rides and settles down quickly while driving. She is calm and not much of a jumper for a very young pup. 🐾 She likes cats…maybe a bit too much for some cats?! She would probably do fine with a dog-savvy cat who’s used to dogs, or a cat who knows how to keep its distance. She'd would also do best in a home without young kids because previous owner reported that she can resource guard food. (dob 4/14/25) 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

Story
Bailey is a sweet energetic puppy who loves people and other dogs. She’s a great, smart dog and very playful. She’s trained to go outside and on puppy pads. She is also crate trained. Because of my busy schedule and the fact that we live in an apartment, I realize that I am unable to meet her needs. I saved her from a home in the Bronx and wasn’t made aware that she was part German Shepherd and I feel guilty that I can’t provide the life she deserves for her energy needs. She would make an amazing addition to a loving family with a beautiful home that will allow her to be able to run and play and not spend most of her days in a crate. For her breed type and her energy level it is best for her to find a home with experience with a puppy like her.
