Max - Approx. 2-3 years old, rescued from Baldwin Park Shelter in California. Max is a gentle, sweet boy who is good with other dogs and just wants to be loved. He's leaving the chaos behind and now in a foster home in Altamont, NY, where his healing can truly begin. Max is a handsome, happy and affectionate boy. He's in the vital young adult stage, and does best with plenty of puzzles, strong chew toys, play time and walks. He is extremely food motivated and easy to train. We even think he's had some K9 style training. He will run through all of the tricks he knows to get a treat. Cat food, recycling bins and counters are very enticing to him, but he's getting better. He will need a watchful leader to learn the rules of the house, but he is more than capable and will need continued crate training. He would love to be given a job! Max came to us very thin and weak, but with quality food and exercise, he is at a healthy weight and strong again, with a very soft and shiny coat. He loves to play with his high energy foster sister, and is calm and respectful with other dogs and cats. He would love a dog companion he can wrestle with. Max lost a toe due to an injury, but he doesn't seem to notice at all! He is not much of a barker, but we have seen that he knows when something isn't right and will position himself between you and the unfamiliar or perceived danger, keeping you safe and demonstrating the typical GSD loyalty, strength, and intelligence. He had to spend time at Animal Medical Center in Palmdale, California battling pneumonia. He fought so hard — and he made it. 💪 Cooper is an absolute doll. Gentle, sweet, and so deserving of this second chance. He does have something going on with his left leg when he walks, and we will be bringing him to our trusted Dr. Berg at Guardian Veterinary in Brewster for a full evaluation. For now, he is safe, warm, and decompressing in foster — exactly where he needs to be.
