Hey- it's me, Ozark. I'm a 1-2 year old, currently 55#- gaining to hopefully reach up to 80#, German Shepherd mix. Not sure if you followed my story, but I was a skinny guy who with some awesome peeps on my side have helped me gain enough weight to be safely neutered and then be adopted! I was told I'm totally smart- I mean they say sit, I do it- same as stay, leave it, and more... even PLACE (I know I'm an advanced student). Ozark is crate trained, has had zero potty issues in the house, knows his basics and then some- but could use a bit more walks and leash time. This loveable guy has been around other dogs, is a guy who would rather chase a cat or squirrel over being BFF'S, and is recommended due to size to hang out with the older kid crowd. Phil is a small (53 pounds) adorable German Shepherd. He was transferred to us from the River Rouge Animal Shelter. Before that, he was found wandering the streets. He is very sweet and oh so calm and just the best boy. He is heartworm positive and is currently going through treatment. During his treatment, Phil has to stay relatively calm (no running races or playing fetch for hours). But after his treatment, he will be ready to go on all those walks and jogs and hikes with you. So, please don't let that dissuade you from meeting this wonderful dog! His treatment is 100% covered. So, don't let that scare you either. You will fall in love.

Riker came to us from Detroit Animal Care and Control. A highly involved foster has a soft spot for Shepherds, and an even softer spot if they are heartworm positive. Riker is a huge cuddler we're being told, and would pass up treats for hugs at any given moment. We would love to find a foster to adopt home where Riker can relax throughout his treatment. His treatment is 100% covered by the rescue. We have TONS of experience on how to keep a dog entertained during this timeframe, since they cannot get their heart rate too elevated. Don't be afraid of this condition. There is no residual affects and Riker is young and healthy and will have no issues. He's a great dog! Fully vetted and already neutered.

Here's a note from a volunteer who took Dagmar on a dog day out.... (her foster mom also says she is great!) Dagmar started out a bit on the hyped up side, but I quickly learned it was just pure excitement to meet another human. She LOVES people. She's not overly treat motivated, she thinks they are just ok. But being loved on, scratched and given praise.. that's where it's at for her. She LOVES hearing how good she is, and she loves to be touching you. She is a super smart girl, walks great on the leash, and is an overall very happy girl. She would make a great companion for someone who is retired and active, or a great family dog.

Ralphie was staying at River Rouge Animal Shelter. He was on his way to being neutered when he tested positive for heartworm. Heartworm is treatable with no residual effects. During treatment a dog must be kept fairly calm so his heart rate does not elevate. We are just getting to know Ralphie. He is staying with a foster that has several other dogs. We would love to get Ralphie into a foster or foster to adopt home where it's a little more peaceful. Please consider fostering. It's such a rewarding experience to know you saved a dog's life.
