🏡🐾 Nila Is Searching for Her Retirement Home 🐾🏡 After a lifetime of love followed by heartbreaking loss, Nila is hoping her next chapter is a gentle, permanent one. This sweet girl truly shines as an easy, polite companion. She loves cozy cuddles, staying close to her people, and calm companionship. While she does enjoy some playtime, Nila is a gentle soul who fits beautifully into a relaxed home. Nila can be selective with other dogs — she gets along well with some but not all, so thoughtful introductions are a must. She does best with older children who understand and respect her space, and her compatibility with cats is currently unknown. Nila also has wonderful house manners — she is calm indoors, respectful of her space, and an absolute joy to live with. She has mild incontinence that is very well managed with her daily medication and does not affect her comfort or quality of life. Nila’s story tugs at the heartstrings. She was raised from puppyhood by devoted owners who passed away last summer. She was adopted shortly after, but tragedy struck again when her adoptive family lost their home in a fire and, through no fault of her own, Nila was returned to the rescue. She is currently safe and loved in a foster home while she waits for the forever family she so deeply deserves. 📋 Nila at a Glance 🎂 9 years old 🐶 Dog-selective; does well with some dogs 👧 Best with older children 🏡 Amazing house manners — calm, polite, and respectful 🤗 Sweet, gentle, cuddly companion 💊 Comfortable on daily medication 🏡 Currently in foster care 🩺 Fully vetted Nila isn’t asking for much — just patience, kindness, and a soft place to land. If you’re looking for a well-mannered, loving companion to share quiet days and cozy nights, Nila may be your perfect match. ❤️

Story
Stanley is a blue heeler/GSD mix and is a fun, energetic, loveable dog. We believe Stanley would do best in a home that does not have small children, as he does occasionally show resource guarding behaviors. Stanley is up to date on shots, although due to being unable to connect to our previous vet, we cannot access those records. He would be due for shots next year. Stanley is: 5 1/2 years old Crate trained House trained Super snuggly

Story
Jager is a very sweet boy, he knows lots of tricks and learns quickly. He just turned 2 in August 2025. Hes very playful and very needy. A friend of ours needed to re-home him and we decided we were up for the challenge. My husband has always wanted a German Shepherd named Jager. Things started off great but we work a lot, and being unable to give him attention, he got upset and started disobeying. He has a bad habit of getting in the trash and on the counters. He also does not get along with cats, our cat basically lives upstairs now and I miss her. I believe a home with lots of time and patience is exactly what he needs, and we just dont have either of those things. We have a 1 year old daughter that he gets along with great, he gives her kisses sometimes and when she cries he immediately goes to her side or comes to get us. Very protective, might not get along with other animals.

Story
Meet Winnie – A Gentle Soul Ready to BloomWinnie is a 3-year-old, 70-pound sweetheart with a heart as soft as her eyes. Found wandering with one of our other residents, she’s been nothing but kind and loving since the moment she arrived. Though new to the shelter life, Winnie has handled it all with grace and a wagging tail that’s starting to show more confidence each day. She’s the type of dog who thrives on gentle affection and calm reassurance — belly rubs are her absolute favorite! While some loud noises or quick movements can still make her a little unsure, we’re watching her blossom beautifully as she learns that the world can be a safe, happy place.Winnie is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm, so for now she’s keeping things on the calmer side. She’ll do best in a home that can provide structure, patience, and enrichment to keep her mind engaged while her body rests and heals. Once she’s fully recovered, she’ll be ready to enjoy a more active lifestyle with her forever family. We know this gentle girl has everything it takes to become a phenomenal family companion — loyal, loving, and eager to please. With a steady routine and a kind heart to guide her, Winnie is sure to blossom into the confident, joyful dog she was always meant to be.If you think your home could be the safe haven Winnie’s been waiting for, apply to meet her at friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogsIf you would like to meet Winnie, please submit an application for her on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. She is spayed, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on monthly flea & tick prevention.Winnie is currently heartworm positive, and will begin her treatment soon. FMAR covers the full cost of heartworm treatment and works with Home Care Veterinary Services for the treatment. You`re still encouraged to apply to adopt Winnie! We`ll work closely with you to ensure her treatment continues smoothly and she gets everything she needs to thrive in her new home. Her treatment after adoption would continue through HCVS until successfully completed. Her adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care she has received.**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so eac

Story
Snickers is a sweet, affectionate and outgoing girl and she gets along with other dogs! She’s estimated to be about 2 years old! Online Dog Adoption Forms: https://wacshelter.com/adopt-a-dog/ Website for general questions: www.wacshelter.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wacshelter/ Email: wacvolunteers@gmail.com ** Be sure to check out our FACEBOOK page for day to day updates on our cats and dogs. Canine adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter Age appropriate vaccinations Deworming Flea prevention (if required) Heartworm screening/monthly prevention ** Volunteer dog walkers work with our dogs 7 days a week. What your adoption fee also includes is housetraining, leash walking and a good understanding of the kind of home each dog would thrive in. ADOPTION FEE: $ 150 "People who say money can't buy you happiness, have never paid an adoption fee...." IS THIS DOG SAFE WITH CATS? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH CHILDREN? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. WHY IS THIS DOG IN THE SHELTER? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog Shelter

Story
Meet Rob...he was dumped by his owners, left alone outside for 2 days, and hit by a car. Luckily, he has no injuries. He seems ok around other dogs in passing when he is out for a walk. The volunteers say he whines when he sees other dogs so he may be ok if you have other pets. A meet and greet is always recommended. Please visit the Taylor Animal Shelter to meet him!
