Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Kyiv. He is an 8-month-old German Shepherd weighing 65lbs. He was found as a stray and will be at least 80lbs when fully grown. Kyiv is a wonderful boy. His age is still up for debate as we believe he is about a month younger as his ears stood up last month and Shepherd's ears are usually up by 4 months. Regardless, he is already 65lb so he will be a big boy when fully grown. He is an absolute dream German Shepherd puppy. He came to us being quite handshy. He was also very mouthy. Though this is a typical Shepherd trait, we have ensured to work with him on this, the younger the better, It was obvious no one had spent time for him, nor did anyone claim him. He learns new things and commands very quickly. He sits on command now and takes treats nicely when in the sit position. Kyiv loves to play with other dogs. He does talk a lot when playing with them. He has a wonderful appetite and is fed twice daily 2 1/2 cups of food. He is housebroken as well as paper trained just in case. He is not crated in his foster home as he has been fine with the other dogs in the home and his toys to keep him occupied. He listens very well. The photographer told us that of all the dogs she has ever photographed in her entire life, he is the best by far for being calm, focused, and not distracted by the other people and dogs in the park. He will require more leash training with his body harness and lead. He rides well in the vehicle. The 2 Veterinarians that have worked with him said he was a really nice, good pup. The ideal home for Kyiv is one where the family has previous herding breed experience. German Shepherd's training never stops. Another female dog to teach him the ropes would really be helpful. The family must be one that includes their dogs in their outdoor activities. Socialization with this breed is very important, both with people and other dogs. Instinct is to protect so the more socialization they get the better. He is not good with cats. We loves children and as he is still in the mouthing stage, his new family, if there are children, would need to be 10 years plus. Kyiv is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. A fully fenced backyard, made of wood, 6-foot high minimum, a Veterinarian History of Compliance and previous German Shepherd or Herding breed ownership are Mandatory to apply for Kyiv. Many thanks to Melissa Caron Photography for their talents.

Story
Ace is a pure bred long haired German shepherd that came from lionheart shepherds as a puppy. He turned 2 years old in November. He has been through a 3 week residential training through happy tails and knows the basics. Ace is very smart and sweet and lovable. Ace’s only issue is being dog reactive and doesn’t do well with other dogs. He is looking for a new home with no other dogs unfortunately. He is very loyal and like velcro. He’s pretty much the best dog you could ask for other than being dog reactive.

Story
Hello! My name is Rubble. I am a handsome 3-year old Shepherd mix pup looking for my new home.I am such a good boy and I absolutely love being around my human and dog friends. I made a best friend here at the shelter and his name is Diesel. We play so well together and I just loved running around in the yard and playing.I take treats very nicely and I eat very politely, as well. I would definitely benefit from someone who has the dedication to taking me on long walks and working with me on the leash. I haven`t had much experience with cats so feline friends are not a good idea for my new home. Please come see me and my friends today! If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm and Saturday 10am-3pm. We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available.
