Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Kyiv. He is an 8-month-old German Shepherd weighing 65lbs. He was found as a stray and will be at least 80lbs when fully grown. Kyiv is a wonderful boy. His age is still up for debate as we believe he is about a month younger as his ears stood up last month and Shepherd's ears are usually up by 4 months. Regardless, he is already 65lb so he will be a big boy when fully grown. He is an absolute dream German Shepherd puppy. He came to us being quite handshy. He was also very mouthy. Though this is a typical Shepherd trait, we have ensured to work with him on this, the younger the better, It was obvious no one had spent time for him, nor did anyone claim him. He learns new things and commands very quickly. He sits on command now and takes treats nicely when in the sit position. Kyiv loves to play with other dogs. He does talk a lot when playing with them. He has a wonderful appetite and is fed twice daily 2 1/2 cups of food. He is housebroken as well as paper trained just in case. He is not crated in his foster home as he has been fine with the other dogs in the home and his toys to keep him occupied. He listens very well. The photographer told us that of all the dogs she has ever photographed in her entire life, he is the best by far for being calm, focused, and not distracted by the other people and dogs in the park. He will require more leash training with his body harness and lead. He rides well in the vehicle. The 2 Veterinarians that have worked with him said he was a really nice, good pup. The ideal home for Kyiv is one where the family has previous herding breed experience. German Shepherd's training never stops. Another female dog to teach him the ropes would really be helpful. The family must be one that includes their dogs in their outdoor activities. Socialization with this breed is very important, both with people and other dogs. Instinct is to protect so the more socialization they get the better. He is not good with cats. We loves children and as he is still in the mouthing stage, his new family, if there are children, would need to be 10 years plus. Kyiv is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. A fully fenced backyard, made of wood, 6-foot high minimum, a Veterinarian History of Compliance and previous German Shepherd or Herding breed ownership are Mandatory to apply for Kyiv. Many thanks to Melissa Caron Photography for their talents.

Story
My name is Rubble. Rubble is my name because I was broken and collapsed but my pieces are strong and able to rebuild. At only 3 years old and 58lbs, I am an incredible companion!Sometimes I am a bit nervous about new people but only because I came from a place where I couldn’t count on the humans around me to have the best of intentions. I have learned that my friends working at the shelter are my true warriors and have been fiercely intentional working on the same goal of giving us the best possible love we can have until we get invited into your homes and life.I was able to take part in a fantastic day at Jimmy John’s Baseball Field which let me show my true athletic nature running bases and posing in the dugout. I can hit the ball, but I might just enjoy bringing you the bat instead. I wasn’t ever truly trained on a leash but I do very well when my handler has the patience and discipline to help me understand all good things come to those who wait and work hard. I sit, shake, and love giving humans kisses. I love to get my morning and afternoon zoomies out, but it’s truly human touch and affection that I crave. I can be the warmest cuddled and also love to rough-house and play with my canine friends here at the shelter. I take treats politely and know how to wait patiently for meal times!I have been here too long. Help me rebuild my love in humans. I am available for adoption now at Macomb County Animal Control. I hope you will come see me and my friends soon.If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm and Saturday 10am-3pm. My adoption fee is SPONSORED!

Story
Hi there! My name is Flint, I`m approximately 4 years old and currently weigh about 80#. I came to Macomb County Animal Control on March 27, 2024 after I was hit by a car and dislocated my left shoulder. Upon further examination, it was also discovered that I was Heartworm positive, so for the last 2 months the amazing staff and volunteers have been taking care of me which included several trips to the vet ( I had to wear a cast for almost 2 months), medications and Heartworm injections. The wonderful Veterinarians now say that I am ready to go into my furever home, but I will need a very special home that will consist of knowledge of my breed and characteristics, take me on my follow up visit to the Veterinarian in July (in Flint), making sure that my activity is limited to short walks as I continue to gain strength in my leg/shoulder, limited stairs would be ideal and a home that can give me lots of my favorite snacks (Hot dogs and cheese, oh how I love them!!!).I have had limited interactions with the other dogs since being here due to my injury, but I have been allowed to be a dog that has very low energy and I did fine, I would probably do best as an only dog at the moment until I have gained all my strength back, it wouldn`t be ideal for another dog to jump on me or want to rough house. I have never lived with cats or had the opportunity to interact with any since being here, so if you have one, slow and proper introductions will be necessary for us to live in harmony. I should be fine with children over the age of 10, but I would like to meet them first to make sure that we are the perfect fit.If you are interested in meeting me or another homeless pet at Macomb `County Animal Control, they are open M-F from 10am-4pm.Hope to see you soon,Love, FlintMy adoption fee is $300 which helps to cover the cost of all the sick and injured animals that Macomb County Animal Control takes in every year.If you are unable to Foster or Adopt a homeless pet, please consider making a monetary donation to the Macomb County Animal Welfare Fund so we can continue to help pets like Flint.
