No apartments.Fence Requirements: NoneSpecial Info: Bailey is a very special dog to us at I Heart Dogs. She is a very good girl but panics in new places and situations. She needs a home who understands she is happiest staying home -- she is not a "partner in crime" type of dog, she is a "I'll be waiting for you when you get home" type. She does not want to go for car rides or walks, she does not want to go pick out new toys at the pet store, and she does not want to go visit Gramma's house. She will take some time to settle in to her new home, but once she does, you will be her everything.DOG APPLICATION: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26CAT APPLICATION: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41EXOTICS APPLICATION: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46The information we are providing for this animal was developed based on observations and assessments in a shelter or foster environment. We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

💗 Name: Lizzie 📅 Intake Date: 9/7/26 🎂 Birthday (DOB): 9/8/25 ✂️ Altered: Yes 🩺 Heartworm Status: Negative ⚖️ Weight: 41 lbs 🐾 Good with other dogs? Yes 🐈 Good with cats? Yes 👦 Good with kids? Unknown 🐕 Leash Trained? Unknown 🏠 House Trained? Yes Meet Lizzie, a 41-pound Terrier mix who believes a good day should include both an adventure and a spot on the couch. She’s energetic and fun-loving, enjoys going for walks and playing with her dog friends, and is always happy to be included in whatever her people are doing. Lizzie is great with other dogs and kids, uses a doggy door, and has no trouble making her appreciation known when treats are involved. Once the day's adventures are over, though, she's perfectly happy to curl up beside you and soak up some attention. Lizzie would fit right in with a family that enjoys having their dog along for the fun but also understands the importance of a good couch session afterward. For her, the perfect day ends exactly where it should: close to her people, with a treat or two in the mix. ------- Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/TAP/2450-michigan-adoption Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications. The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport. Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!

Story
Maggie!? How come a gorgeous girl like you haven't gotten adopted yet? Well - the fact that Maggie is a gorgeous (non-pitbull) dog is part of the problem! Adopters applying for Maggie wants a pretty, fun and easy big dog. But Maggie is infact a full-sized Chihuahua. There is nothing wrong with this sweetheart - she LOVES other dogs, is completely potty trained, healthy, active and fun. Maggie just doesn't want to be touched until you've known each other for QUITE a while. And even then, a snarl might come out of nowhere. She is happy and content at the shelter, but will easily adapt to your household of active dogs and hands-off owners. Been around a grumpy cat before? Chihuahuas? Pekingese? Why do we as a society understand that small dogs can be delicate to handle, yet we require big dogs to allow all handling all the time? Maggie is special, but not overwhelming. She is extremely rewarding to interact with, although touch is not her love language! Included in the adoption fee of $275 is up to date vet care, microchip, vaccines, dewormer. She is spayed and ready for meet and greets! Apply to foster-to-adopt Maggie, we will be there for you the whole way: rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt

Story
Aho A18809237 lb. spayed female, approx 2 years old -This sweet girl is a little timid and unsure in the shelter, especially walking through the noisy kennel area. She waited nicely at her kennel, and when I knelt down to her level, she came over and rested her chin on my knee. 🥹 She was hesitant about walking through the building, but once we got outside, she started warming up almost immediately.-She’s very food motivated, enjoys affection, and walks okay on leash. Once she felt more comfortable, she was happy to connect and soak up some attention. She may need a little patience and encouragement in a new environment, but she has a sweet side that comes out quickly when she feels safe. -Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids•Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.** •The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-5:30, except for Wednesday when we open at 11:30**We ask that if you’re looking to adopt, you arrive before 5:00 to be able to have enough time to meet the dog. **1431 E Ferry St. Detroit
