Story
Eris (pronounced Air-iss) is an approximately 4-year-old spayed female German Shorthaired Pointer who currently weighs 42 pounds. After being found as a stray, Eris spent about two months in a shelter before joining GPPR. During that time, she lost about 6 pounds, and we're working to help her regain a healthy weight. She's now settling into foster care and learning what life as a beloved family member is all about. Every day, she's becoming more comfortable and showing off her affectionate, fun-loving personality. Personality Eris absolutely loves people and wants to be wherever you are. Whether you're working in the yard, going for a walk, or relaxing outside, she'll happily tag along as your shadow. She has an incredible zest for life and is always ready for the next adventure. Eris is an energetic girl who thrives on activity and engagement. Once she's had plenty of exercise, she begins to settle, but she is not the type of dog who is content to lounge around all day. She is learning basic household manners and has already started responding to commands like off, down, and no. She'll need a family that is committed to continuing her training with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.   Other Dogs Eris enjoys other dogs and loves to play. Because of her enthusiasm, she may be overwhelming for lower energy dogs at first, but she's learning appropriate play with her foster brother through supervised interactions. Around the House Since Eris came into rescue as a stray, many everyday routines are still new to her. She is making steady progress with her house training through frequent trips outside and lots of praise. She's also learning that her crate is a safe place. She may whine for a few minutes when first crated but is becoming more comfortable as she adjusts to her routine. One thing we've learned is that Eris is not a fan of fireworks or other loud noises. During fireworks, she prefers the comfort and security of being indoors with her people.   The Ideal Home Eris is looking for an active family that understands the needs of a German Shorthaired Pointer. She'll do best with people who can provide plenty of daily exercise, mental stimulation, and continued training to help her become the best version of herself. She has already shown that she is affectionate, eager to learn, and devoted to her people. With structure, consistency, and an outlet for her abundant energy, Eris has all the potential to become an incredible companion.   If you're ready for an energetic adventure partner and are willing to invest the time to help her continue learning, Eris is ready to meet you. Story
Lexie is affectionate, loyal, and happiest when she can be close to her people. If you're looking for a dog that wants to be part of everything you do, Lexie may be your perfect match. Lexie loves kids and forms strong bonds with her family. She can be a little cautious when meeting new people, preferring to observe and assess the situation before jumping in. Give her a little time, though, and her sweet personality begins to shine through. Once you're in her circle, she wants to be wherever you are. Whether you're watching television, working from home, heading out for an adventure, or simply relaxing on the couch, Lexie is happiest when she can tag along. She is the kind of dog who thrives on companionship and being included in everyday life. Like any self respecting GSP, Lexie is fascinated by birds and loves patrolling the backyard. She enjoys running around the yard and keeping an eye on everything happening outdoors. While she happily joins other dogs for a lap around the yard, she is much more interested in spending time with her people than playing with canine companions. In fact, Lexie would secretly love to be the center of someone's world. She would be happiest as an only dog where she can soak up all the attention and affection for herself. That said, she can successfully coexist with a calm, respectful, easy-going dog. Lexie can be a little possessive of her favorite people, so she will do best with adopters who are comfortable setting clear boundaries and reminding her that sharing is part of being a good family member. Lexie is crate trained and knows several commands, including sit, wait, fetch, and drop it. She is smart, eager to be involved, and always ready to accompany her favorite people on their next adventure. She can also be a little mischievous at times and has discovered that counters and tables occasionally contain treasures worth investigating. If you're looking for a devoted companion who will follow you from room to room, keep you company throughout the day, and happily snuggle up beside you at night, Lexie is ready to meet you. Story
Being a German Shorthair & Hound mix, you can imagine that ol' Oscar is a lover of the outdoors! This sweet boy was born in May of 2015 and is still looking for a place to call his own. Oscar enjoys being around people, especially ladies, but he understands what it's like to need some space: your time, my time, and our time! Oscar experiences anxiety and because of this, boundaries are important to him. When his anxiety is low, Oscar is a goofy, playful boy who likes to chase balls, sticks, and rabbits. He loves, loves, loves long walks with plenty of time to let his hound nose get some exercise, and lots of exercise helps work off that extra energy that can make this handsome boy nervous! Because of his love for exploration, Oscar will need a fenced-in yard to keep him close to home.  Oscar is not kennel trained, but is totally fine being left to lounge around the house while you're away.  He's also housetrained, so no worries about that business! Oscar is a very smart dog who knows "sit", "stay", "lay down", "leave it" and he also knows that when he follows these fun words, he gets really yummy treats! Oscar's ideal home will be with an active person/couple who love to explore nature, just like he does, and who will love him like family while respecting his need for boundaries and independence! The suggested adoption donation for Oscar is $315.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE.  Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION.  Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match.  If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet.  The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter.  We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs.  If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Weston is a good, sweet boy who loves everyone. My son took him from someone who was planning to dump him. Unfortunately, my son works long hours and Weston has been left alone in the apartment for long periods of time. This is not a good life for a puppy at all. There have been problems with neighbors and apartment management and he can no longer live with my son. He's an active, 7-8 month old with lots of energy. He has been around other dogs and lived with a cat. The cat was not a fan, Weston just wanted to be friends and play together. The cat wouldbswipe at hime an Wes would back off. Wes just wants to love everyone. I have taken food, treats and toys away from him and he has never shown any aggression at all I really want to find Weston a home where he can have a good life. He would be great for someone who has the time to invest. He's loving, friendly and playful. But he is not very trained. He will need plenty of exercise and attention -- just like most dogs.
