Fillmore is a handsome 10-year-old coonhound/retriever mix who recently transferred to us from another shelter and is ready to start his next chapter. This sweet old man is currently living in a foster home, where he’s getting lots of love and settling into the good life. As we get to know him better, we’ll be sharing more updates on his personality, likes, and quirks. For now, we can tell you that Fillmore is gentle, kind, and full of that special senior-dog charm. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to share quiet moments, cozy naps, and peaceful walks, Fillmore just might be your perfect match. Senior dogs have so much love to give — and Fillmore is no exception.

Hazel came to DCHS very pregnant and ready for a fresh start. Since arriving, she has proven to be an incredible mother to her eight beautiful puppies. She is gentle, attentive, and devoted, giving her babies the very best start in life. Beyond being a wonderful mom, Hazel is an exceptional companion. In her foster home, she does great with other dogs and even cats. She has a calm, loving personality and transitions beautifully into a home routine. She is house-trained and clearly communicates when she would like to go outside(waiting by the door and with a paw tap), making her an easy and respectful member of the household. Hazel will need a few more weeks (as of 2/13) to finish raising her puppies, but she is available for pre-adoption now. DCHS will coordinate her send-home date once her puppies are ready to be weaned and she has completed her mama duties. After dedicating herself so completely to her puppies, Hazel deserves a home where she can be the one receiving all the love and attention. If you are looking for a loyal, gentle, and family-ready dog with a heart of gold, Hazel is ready to meet you.

Meet Luella! This beautiful young husky is estimated to be around a year old and is just beginning her journey with us. Luella came to us as a stray, and now that her hold is up, she’s ready to find a forever home to call her own. Even though she’s brand new and we’re still getting to know her, one thing is already clear—Luella is incredibly sweet. She’s been friendly and gentle with everyone she’s met so far, and we can’t wait to learn more about her personality as she settles in. Luella does have a bit of a “signature scent” at the moment after a recent run-in with a skunk, but don’t let that fool you—underneath it all is a lovely girl just waiting to shine! As a young husky, Luella will likely do best with an active family who can keep up with her energy and provide the structure and enrichment this intelligent breed thrives on. We’ll continue to update her bio as we learn more, but if you’re looking for a sweet, young pup to grow with your family, Luella might just be your girl!
